Description
This is an attempt at fabricating a cosplay prop that is also useful. Its is the D ark/ D power Digivice From Digimon Tamers. It will contain a USB thumb drive or USB SD card reader and will light up at the screen when plugged in..
The two main body Parts are sculpted from Sculpey clay. Buttons, bezels and other pieces are carved from blocks of plaster.
After i complete all the pieces they will be molded and cast in resin so hopefully i will be able to take commissions.

when you are able to finish your first one I am still looking forward to it
So far very few people will make season 3 and up digivices most do Season 1 or 2 and they are made of Sculpey and does not do anything
This will be great to have someday.
Have you looked into getting the Chinese fakes to help in making the molds they are sometimes sold on Amazon really cheap

Actually at first i had looked into getting one of those but everywhere i tried they were sold out. It would be so much easier to mod one of those for this than to do it my way. But molding the original presents problems as well. The model will be way clearer paint wise if the bezels and buttons are separate.
But I wouldn't get the crafting experience either. Totally satifying to figure it out and sculpt it on my own. Well, when I'm not fighting with the materials and stuff of course. Sets one up for items that may not have an official release or something. For me it was just going to be plain, then i realized it'd be easier to have the buttons and bezels separate so i could do all kinds of colors. then i thought about how they plugged it into the computer and stuff and viola, awesome functional piece.
I know what you mean though. People are all about the original and D3 Digivices and stuff. Tamers gets so little love in that department. Has a lot to do with the shape of the device Im sure. Lots of complex curves and stuff.
I keep telling myself i'm going to finish this and i keep forgetting about it. I'm a terrible procrastinator. *laughs*

I wish you good luck and I can not wait till it is finished someday. I thought about buying the Fakes take them apart. put a USB Flash Drive that would retract inside cut a slot for it to come out. At less till you get yours done but ever time i try to order the fakes The sellers cancal the order. I seen some on ebay but most want High S/H now.

I had that exact same issue. I think these places have not updated their inventory, and when people order stuff they realize they don't have it. or perhaps its a supplier issue.

I actually have not made any progress on this since this was posted unfortunately. I had some issues where thinner parts up top cracked and broke and I couldn't repair it well. It is sitting in a box in my workspace right now collecting dust.

Hi there!
Sorry i haven't responded. I've not really been looking at DA as of late. Unfortunately I haven't gotten very far on this. I had started it and ran into some issues and stepped away from working on it. If there's any specific questions you have let me know though! I might be able to help!

Hi!
Awesome to know people are interested in commissions on this. Though i had stepped away from it for a bit to work out some crafting issues, I am planning on starting back up again. Hopefully fresh eyes help me out.

This looks really great and practical I must say
Anyway, I'm making something similar to this right now except it's the tag and crest from Season 1. I'd just like to know, aside from the flashdrive/card reader is there any other part that is essential?

I'm not sure there would be much more.In my case there is figuring out how to encase the flash drive or card reader without it being obvious, but that actually works out well with the d-arc. I also have other things like a phasing LED behind the screen when its plugged in, but that's not necessarily going to be an issue for you.

I actually just restarted working on it after a few months break. had to step away after an issue with stress cracking at the thin part in the top. I started carving a new piece out of plaster this weekend and im hoping it will also fix some other issues i was having. Thanks for asking! I plan to post it when Finish, along with all the resin parts i make from it.

That is a really awesome, unique idea! The crafting is really good and useful things are always great. How did you manage to make the D-Power look so close to the official ones out of clay??

Thanks!
I did a lot of image searching on google for both the toys and screenshots from the show. a printout of a head on picture provided me with a base outline to start forming on top of and some proportions for the different parts. i started with a solid top half, formed the bottom off of it so they would fit together decently the baked them and started carving away the inside and refining the outside. Its acutaully and ongoing thing, but i've met with a bit of a block lately as the softness and brittleness of the sculpey is causing problems.

That is absolutely amazing. I honestly thought you'd pulled apart a bootleg one or something at the first glance o.O I hope you can work through the Sculpey problem, I bet they'll be amazing once you finish them.

Thanks! I hope to be able to make them to sell relativity soon. I am also thinking about doing the other seasons digivices as well. Maybe even an mp3/video player model(I think the D-terminal might be good for that though)
