Description
Seriously, all I really cared about when the 2014 Godzilla movie was released was "Please don't be like 1998. Please, oh please, oh PLEASE!" But, after I saw it, I was so happy and my faith in Gareth Edwards was well-placed. Can't wait for the Godzilla/King Kong Legendary series to get rolling.ยRelated content

I agree with you, the 1998 Godzilla film was rubbish. Happy New Year.

I loved this movie.ย Best movie of 2014 in my opinion.ย I loved every human character, the character of the monsters, Godzilla being done right, those effects and the music, literally everything about this movie was phenomenal.

My only complaint about the movie, was they didn't focus more on Godzilla. Especially when he fought MUTO in Hawaii. Other than that it was a great movie.

I really didn't care too much about how much Godzilla was in the movie, all I cared about was them getting him right.ย

I agree that they did get him right, but i was kinda annoyed how when they did show him in Hawaii about to fight MUTO, they cut it away and we barely see any ofย the fight. Only what was shown on the news.

Personally, that didn't bother me because there were three action sequences before that scene: Hokmuto vs the Green Berets, Godzilla showing up in Honolulu and Hokmuto attacking the airport, that's ten full minutes of action right there. If they didn't cut away from the fight, we would have gotten an early climax.

Same here, although I understand why some people don't like it based on a few scenes. But I really enjoyed it since it was my first Godzilla film experience in theaters.

Hey. I loved the movie either way, no matter what kinda stuff people didn't like about it. All i knew was that it was Godzilla, and that was good enough for me. But i'm glad someone else really likes it, too.

Same here. I enjoyed it despite Godzilla feeling like a secondary character and how the Hawaii battle played out. After that scene, I thought "They better make up for that later on.", then when the final battle took place with Godzilla's breath attacks, my brain went "all right that was, that was... Ahh screw it, SHOW IT AGAIN!". I felt like the film was a test to see how the design of Godzilla would play out for fans so that the sequel would show more of him then.ย

Well, it probably was. After all, there was no real way to tell how this would have been received. But as we've seen, Gareth Edwards did his homework when it came to bringing Godzilla to life. And essentially, this was a way of building his character up so we could have an idea of what possible releases could be like. And, obviously, it succeeded well enough for its sequel to be in preparation. Now we're probably going to get something even closer to the toho films in terms of kaiju action. But then again, many Godzilla films had this kind of pacing, anyway, so it's not entirely new to me.

It is for me. I never saw the original films. My first one was the poor one, but I did like the show afterwards. I agree though with Edwards doing his homework, based on Godzilla's time in this one. When I first saw the film, I thought "He's the title character, why do the Mutos have more screen time than he does." Then I learned that the first Godzilla film, the very first one had even less time then this one did. So it shows just how much he did his homework for fans of the original. I'm hoping we see more updated monsters, like the ones from the PS4 game that has the new Godzilla in it.ย
Good night.

Okay. I understand. And actually, i was the same way with the 98 film, and the animated series. But i gotta say that i at least owe them for introducing me to Godzilla in the first place. But yes: that's exactly how the Godzilla have been for years. True, he has had more screentime in certain films, but not any more than 2014. Yes, that would be great to see. I definitely agree with you there.
G'night.

Agreed. I enjoyed the 98 when I was younger and saw in on YouTube, back when you could post anything, but watching later, I began to see what made people disliked it. Not Broderick though, he did a good job considering what the film was about.ย
I liked all the monsters in the game, but I dislike the game itself. It feels so slow, like the makers tried to make it too much like Godzilla monsters to the point where they move like in the movies. The battle in 2014 and Melee games showed that the monsters could fight like if they were real. The game PS4 feels like you're moving the guy in the rubber suit in the old films.ย

Yeah. I was actually that way, too. I acknowledge all of the faults the movie has, but i don't let it keep me from enjoying it. Though i can say i enjoy the animated series much more.
Well, i'm actually sure that was the idea. They wanted to make a game which would work, look, and feel exactly like toho's movies. But then again, i haven't actually played it, to i don't know how much i would like it. But after watching several walkthroughs, i can definitely say it would be enjoyable enough for me. Though i understand not everybody agrees with me.

Indeed, just as the Nostalgia Critic proved in his Star Wars Prequel episode, even in crappy films, there are always scenes that are always fun to watch. Like the chase scenes with the parent Zilla, the babies being born, and the Phillipe scenes. Also the scene where Mario is falling between dimensions in Super Mario Bros. But yeah, the show was better in terms of Godzilla fighting other mutations, that and he had the breath.
That's true, I have the game because the pre order bonus gave you 2014 Godzilla, but it still feels slow to me. That and you have to start slow before the real action begins because you need one certain element from a monster to level up, but there's no way of knowing where to find the creature. It's a random chance and there's still the matter of beating it.

Yeah. The movie was just typical kaiju mayhem. The series was an actual homage to the traditional series. And it was/is glorious. But yeah, i actually remembering that about NC. Something i greatly agree with.
I understand. But if anything, i'm just getting enjoyment out of seeing all of the kaiju in their designs. And admiring how fantastic they all look, too. Now i just wish they could make some kind of DLC for it.

Sideways865 In reply to kahnac [2015-11-22 21:47:51 +0000 UTC]
Indeed, my first monster mayhem movie. Indeed, as a kid, I was in it to see Godzilla fight monsters. Now I like both sides of it. I agree with you there about the Critic. He reviews bad movies, but knows where to see the good things in it. Why can't other reviewers be like that.
That's one way to look at it. I hope they do a movie or TV show of it later on with all of them and more.

Because people can often be narrow minded about stuff, and will often see only what they want to see. Guess it's just another part of human nature, is all.
Indeed. An anime series of some kind is all that i really need. And after reading Rulers of Earth so many times, i know it can be done.

Sideways865 In reply to kahnac [2015-11-22 22:36:53 +0000 UTC]
True to that. I guess I'm an example of that with the Godzilla game. Still though, I see lots of films that people say are bad, but I enjoy like the Transformers movies, Super Mario Bros., Godzilla 1998, Predators, and others. What about you?
As long as they stay true to Godzilla and not give him some kind of cute side kick, than I'm all for it. What is Rulers of the Earth?

When it comes to moves, games, cartoons, and books, i'm very open minded. I don't judge, or criticize a film after i watch it. I just enjoy it afterwards as i'm supposed to. And peoples opinion of said things don't make me change my mind at all.
