History:
In a remote location East of Los Angeles, a group of scientists were conducting a study on a new chemical that could be used as a shark repellant. Along with sharks, the facility also contained various types of rays, which are very close relatives to sharks. Unfortunately, a terrible accident occurred one night when a horrendous storm loomed over the facility and unleashed a powerful lightning bolt, striking the tank housing the chemical infused rays. All the rays merged into a single entity, leading to the creation of a new creature that was part Manta ray, part Sting ray, and part Electric ray. This new creature was mutated, as well as powered up by the experimental chemical. But that wasn’t all; the lightning bolt that struck the tank gave the creature an amplified electrical shock.

After witnessing the creature’s tremendous powers, one of the scientists working at the facility called the creature Rayden, after the Japanese god of thunder and lightning, Raiden or Raijin. Rayden has a strong hunger for electricity, which he needs to power his abilities and is drawn towards large electrical sources. The creature left blackouts in every city in its path, eventually making its way to the city of Las Vegas. Unfortunately for Rayden, this was at the border of another creature’s territory: Spikera. The two colossal mutations fought, but Rayden quickly ran out of power and lost.

Notable Traits:

- Rough Skin: Just like all rays, Rayden has a skin texture that is rough like sandpaper. This is because of tiny teeth-like structures, known as placoid scales, which covers the surface of their skin. Each scale points towards Rayden’s tail and reduces the friction around it when it is in motion. This sandpaper-like texture also helps Rayden blend in better with desert sand.

- Venomous Barbs: Two rows of knife-like barbs run down Rayden’s back and join at the tail. Each barb is serrated and will often break off inside the wound. The barbs contain venom that can cause severe pain, swelling, muscle cramps, or numbness. The venom itself is not fatal, but the barb can be if it were to pierce a vital area.

- Electrical Lobes: Each of Rayden’s paddle-like fins, or cephalic lobes, on its head is capable of generating large amounts of electricity in order to stun its prey or ward off attackers. The amount of volts Rayden can generate varies depending on how much electricity it consumes, but it can vary anywhere from 50,000 volts to 1.5 million volts.

- Terrestrial: As a part of its mutation, Rayden has developed the ability to thrive on land, which is something not found in any other rays. He has even adapted an ability to travel swiftly in the desert sands.
