Nah, no references, just kind of wung(winged?) it. Yeah, toes are hard, along with fingers. Just kind of got lucky this time.

Hey, what program do you use, because I made some brushes/textures for SAI to do scales and things easier, they're just square BMP format patterns though so they can be used for anything I think. I have the link to them on here [link]

I use a combination of Photoshop and SAI. Usually sketching in photoshop then taking it into SAI to do the lines, since SAI makes nice solid lines. I also do the base colors in SAI as well, since its a bit easier. For shading it depends on how I want it to look. For effects, I usually use Photoshop because there's more broad range of effect types.
The scales you used look pretty cool, I'll check em out next time. I've also made a few scale brushes in Photoshop which I've used in my Kaiju illustrations.

Neat! I don't have photoshop but my friend says it works to make line art in there and then color in SAI or something. -shrug-
