Finally got some time to finish this baby up, had plans to do a painting every week but that may have been a little unrealistic. Something about the "lightning awakens the sleeping beast" plot point has always been a favorite of mine in fiction, and it's happened quite a few times in the history of the Toho universe.Commissions open: kaijukid.deviantart.com/journa…

Heh you took that from The Return of Godzilla movie. I saw that movie, it was great and I think it was the first movie of the Godzilla Heisei era.

It's my wife's favorite and was one of the ones I'd always wanted to see when I was a kid because I kept seeing the trailer, over and over, but I couldn't FIND it, I couldn't locate a tape, it took years, and then finally I watched it......and yeah it was pretty good

Don't I remember when Godzilla awakes from Lightning. That happened when he fought with Ebirah, and then with MechaGodzilla.

In this film it happens after the Americans intercept the Russian nuke over Tokyo, it creates a radioactive storm that produces lightning that strikes him and wakes him up from his defeat by the Super X.

I knew what happened. I just think there was something in those elements with Godzilla that gets strike by lightning, but that's what gives him power.

It's also my wife's favorite Godzilla film, which has raised my affections for it over the years. This G-Fest a friend and I are planning a performance skit as well from the movie, and I hope it gives some laughs and nostalgia to everyone who still remembers the American cut of the film.

that part of the film creeped me out a bit a nuclear bom almost hit the city then the weird magenta cloud going dark and the lightning and the opening eye . well illustrated !

Thanks sir, I'm really digging these paintings, it's just nearly impossible to make time for them. But I have a laundry list of many more I'm looking forward to getting to. There's just too many good moments from the films that get overlooked or haven't been featured much in art form, so I feel the need to do my part.

Excellent work! G84/G85 was always the "big kid" Godzilla to me when I was young, and the scene where he revives from the radioactive lightning was, and still is, EPIC
