Description
At long last the NECA King of the Monsters Godzilla figures are rolling in, and sadly this time around the quality control hasn't been the best. Don't misunderstand me this sculpt is AMAZING, and the toy is well made and solid, but one of the key elements, the eyes, has been horribly derped on every picture of this figure I've seen, and mine was no exception. So I took it upon myself to repaint them myself and it made a huge difference. Before he had this sort of shocked ERMAGERSH! face going on, but just adjusting the eyes to look straight ahead fixed the whole appearance of the face and I'm very happy with it. We're just a week off from the film and I'm glad I get to hold this beautiful boy while we wait for Friday to roll in!

Nice figure my friend, I got one of these guys as well, pretty cool but the tail was a bit of a pain to get on even when following the instructions for it, & had a little nick of plastic on its underside, but still overall a nice figure. I'm ultimately much more excited for the SH Monster Arts version I pre-ordered months ago, they're expensive but they're worth it (especially if you pre-order them early instead of long after their original release I've noticed, much cheaper then lol).
BTW, I suspect I already know the answer to this, but did you catch Godzilla: King of the Monsters yet?

Twice, actually, made a status update about it but I'll just copy it here for convenience. I wish I could go see it again but sadly life and my new job are probably going to get in the way, but I'm glad I went to go see it on a super screen, the experience was a blast.
"My two cents, and I think they're pretty good cents so hear me out.
I've enjoyed sitting through King of the Monsters twice now, a Godzilla fan of 30 years who loves this big dinosaur more than any other character in fiction. The first trailer was SO good that frankly I don't think my hyped expectations were ever going to be fully met, but beyond a doubt I love this film. It's not perfect, show me a Godzilla that reasonably is beyond the original, but it was good. It excited me, it warmed my heart, it made me love my kaiju all the more. It won't make it into my top 10 in my overall ranking of the whole series, but I love it very much and I'm so satisfied that it was made, and made with love. It's a love letter to the genre, to us the fans, and to the monsters who inhabit it.
Ignore the snob critics, heck ignore the snob FANS who act like if it's not a man in a rubber suit it has no business being called Godzilla. Just go, take it in, love it or hate it as you wish but most of all if you're just looking for the magic of it, I say embrace it because this film did a great many good things for our King of the Monsters.
Long Live Gojira."

Interesting that the LegendaryGoji can also mutate like the ShinGoji ... judging from its change in appearance between 2014 and 2019.

I just finished reading the prequel book Godzilla: Aftershock, and while I won't spoil it there is a suggestion near the end as to why Godzilla's backplates have changed. It's a little odd but it's nice that they're trying to work in an in-story explanation.

I painted the eyes on mine as well. Mine are now more of a gold color, closer to the NECA 2014 figure. I think it turned out pretty well, and I can share on DA if you're interested.
I really don't know what happened at NECA to make that eye problem. I didn't notice it on the prototypes, so it had to be a intentional change.

Would be cool to see your spin on it. I imagine it's likely a factory control issue, the Chinese factories can often cause the quality to look less great between prototype and mass production and by then it's too late
