Description
This one is a bit of a cheat because it's not a single movie, but the story of The Lord of the Rings has always just been the big epic to me that it is so the divisions hardly matter, but if I had to single out a favorite single movie of the film adaptations I would definitely say The Fellowship of the Ring. I was fortunate enough to be a big LOTR fan before the movies were ever on the horizon, so finally being able to see live action, superbly well done versions of one of my favorite stories was astounding and the films became among the most beloved in my family, and I would say helped us get through some of the worst years we ever had. I could go on forever about how much I love the world of Middle-Earth, but sufficient to say for this submission the LOTR series was about as magnificent as I had ever hoped they could be."Don't be too sad, Sam. You have so much to enjoy and to be and to do."

I love this series. Which of the three is your favorite? I think mine is the last one either the last or the second.

For me my favorites of both trilogies is the first installment, Unexpected Journey and Fellowship of the Ring. Something about setting out on the journey and leaving the comfortable home environment, building up the world and the fact that the first chapter tends to stand alone the best just makes me enjoy them more. Fellowship has some of my favorite moments of feels as well, so for me definitely that one.

I'm gonna be crucified for this, but I've never seen any of the Lord of the Rings films. Only parts.

Ha, well I would hope nobody would be that ridiculous because we can't see every movie out there, nor does everyone care. I get razzed by friends all the time for missing "unmissable" classics from my childhood or not seeing them until I was an adult like Die Hard or some of the biggies of action. My wife never saw Wizard of Oz until she was in her late 20s. It happens, I mean I knew when I started making this list that the odds were good plenty of my friends here on DA would have never seen probably a good handful or more of my personal choices.
Now STAR WARS, that's the one people take you out back and shoot you if you've never seen it XD Trust me, they lose their marbles if you've never seen the original trilogy.

My wife and I are reading the trilogy aloud to each other and there are still sequences that I can't read aloud simply because I start crying. We did the Hobbit and I was excited to read Thorin's death scene but she had to finish it.

The death of Thorin is one of the most touching and powerful character deaths I can even think of, it's insane, which is why the bar was honestly set impossibly high for me in the third Hobbit film and why the filmed version just didn't do any justice for me of how amazingly powerful his passing really was. It's a small gripe and obviously I can live in spite of it, but the power of the trilogy for me was how they really did bring out some of the best moments in the books and expanded on ideas to really drive home the heart of many of the characters. Also that's really great you two read together, it's a lost art if feels like
