Description It's the little and profound moments that make a good movie.Β  This is a mash of the classic and heart breaking scene in the original Gojira and the new design, but it's my way of hoping that the new movie has some profound moments and not just a lot of empty Hollywood movie kills.

This scene actually destroyed me the first time i saw it.

I did knew what to expect when i watched Godzilla 54. But this just caught me off-guard. I lay on my chair thinking how fucked up war and death is. Back when Godzilla was not just a big monster, a hero or a destroyer. It was just a representation of the greatest fear humanity had back there: The Nuclear Bombs. This scene and the prayer for peace just destroys me everytime i see the movie again.

This is why Shin Gojira actually felt underwhelming. It tried to bring back this Godzilla, but failed because it didn't understood that Godzilla 54 wasn't scary because he was ugly or because he destroyed a city in flashy manner. But because he actually bring despair and death to the heart of people. You actually see people dying, suffering and breaking because of how terrible he is. It didn't need to spit blood to do that. It just needed to remind us the horror of what we, humanity, can bring to itself.

I would agree, the emotional impact of the 54 movie is substituted for the political commentary, and it just doesn't make the film as satisfying as the more emotionally driven G-films. Β I know the Japanese really embraced Shin because of their feelings over their recent tragedies but it doesn't serve the film as well without moments of human suffering and danger displayed on screen. Β I'm hoping future installments will be more mindful of that element, because like you say it makes such an impression and elevates the movie to something more than just an action flick.

Too bad the 2016 Godzilla movie didn't have a recreation of this scene.Β

Yeah, the 2016 movie didn't really have the same level of emotion as the 1954 film.Β

That scene was heartwrenching, made worse by the fact that the kids survived, but the mother died.

The girl screaming for her mother is what gets me.

I completely agree there, the kid is so frighteningly believable that it churns your guts.

And then there's the fact that a few hospital scenes from the film were actually footage of the aftermath of the Hiroshima bombing.

Those scenes were never specified though.

No, it's just a mash of the original 1954 film scene and a sort of stylized version of the 2014 Godzilla.

I think that's a good move, I've heard too many fans say they've ruined movies for themselves recently because of digesting every piece of pre-release media, including Pacific Rim.Β  The fresher it is the better I say

Yeah, some movies I just cant help but try and get every tidbit i can but other times I want to no almost nothing about a film before I see it. I love stumbling across and excellent film by accident. For instance when I first saw Highlander I knew nothing about it, just lucked into on late night while watching hbo as a teenager. Nothing beats that kind of movie experience for me.

Dude, I know you're young, but the way to gain favor in the Kaiju art community isn't to guilt other artists about liking your work.Β  It's kinda tacky.Β  It's a good looking monster and you have some nice renditions of it, including that CGI one, but yeah, don't pull the guilt card.

Very scary & sorrowful work, I hope there will be scenes like this too, & I think there will be since its gonna focus on the human aspect of things as well I hear, like it'll showcase what life would be like if giant monsters really stomped around cities destroying lives and property left and right.

I think the mood is going to be really heavy on this one, which is always risky nowadays given certain audience expectations.Β  I like fun, I mean Pacific Rim was a FUN, fun movie, but there's still a need for heavy.Β  I just hope theater going audiences appreciate that, too
