In the wake of such monsters as Godzilla and King Kong, modern science had to reevaluate the theories they had long held to be set in stone. 1956 after a string of bizarre slasher type murders in a japanese mine, explorers discovered the place swarming with meganula, 7 meter long insects, but more importantly was the discovery of the kaiju called Rodan. Enormous pterasaurs 45 meters tall with 100 meter wingspans, they emerged from the ground and headed for Sapporo and leveled the city, soon after the volcanoe the two monsters lived in was loaded with tons of high explosives and forced to erupt killing the two adult Rodan, but the unknown hatchling Rodan escaped. In 1964 that Rodan would appear over Japan at nearly the same size at his parents the flying kaiju and Godzilla went into battle with each other until swayed by Mothra to help her battle the monster Ghidorah. And with the combined power of the three earthly kaiju Ghidorah was forced to flee. rodan then went on to become a friend to man and to Godzilla and later Angilas and Varan. Rodan would be confined to monster island in 1968.
