Long ago Vertigo warred with ancient wizards only to be overwhelmed and imprisoned on the moon of Urth. When the object fell from the void and rearranged the continents the barrier holding the vile serpent, were weakened enough for her to break free. Vertigo is second only to Diablo in evil, and she delights in tormenting her followers with horrific mental illusions or injecting them with venom or even turning them to stone. The only person shows any kind of compassion for is her head priestess Myllyssa, whom she communicates her desires to via psychic link. Vertigo will sometimes ally herself with diablo against Blizzard and Armadon but the ventures ussually end with them trying to kill each other. Vertigo struggles to get to Earth and gain control over the one creature that would make her invincible, Godzilla.
