Description One of the designs I've been working on for Gleaming Scythe Productions' graphic novel series.

"During the age of man, reports of immense, 60-100 foot long serpents inhabiting the jungles of Central and South America circulated amongst early explorers. In the coming years, these sightings were attributed to, and explained away as being due to female anacondas engaged in orgies. There's a strong sexual dimorphism in this species, with females much larger than their male counterparts. A single female is commonly engaged by dozens, even hundreds of smaller male serpents during the mating season. These mating groups become tightly entwined, and tend to sink into the shallow waters, and thick vegetation of their habitat, leading zoologists to believe the reports of serpents over 30 feet in length are most likely multiple serpents entwined, and partially obscured from view, creating the illusion of a single immense snake. Believers counter that large serpents exceeding 30 feet were shot, and their bodies measured. This apparent mystery was never solved, because mankind would ultimately run afoul of Tiamat, and suffer the consequences. But in the time of The Black Paw, there's no uncertainty. Snakes up to 100 feet in length are well documented, common even. And the species best known for these immense sizes are The Black Anacondas. In the past these serpents came in green and yellow varieties. Those two color patterns have since gone extinct, and are replaced by serpents of the black variety, their dark scales interrupted by isolated patches of red just above their yellow underbellies, and the red stripes of their eyes. Though much larger than their ancestors, their hunting methods remain largely unchanged. They drown their victims in the shallows, or deep waters, while crushing the life out of them with their powerful muscles. But the feature that contributed the most to the survival of this species was the powerful digestive juices of their stomachs. They're able to swallow the immense insects that now populate the world, and digest even their thick outer shells."

"Titanoboa", South America, google search it or just type "Titanoboa" into the DeviantArt search box.
50 feet long, over a ton of serious badness; you're just a light snack to it.

I like this design. You really captured the sheen and subtle glimmer of the scales. I wish there was a was to see a closer look of the head, but at the same time, I'm frightened of the prospect that you were able to perfectly capture the horror that is the gaping maw with the hooked teeth. I have to ask, was this drawing in any way influenced by the first Anaconda movie? Or at least, the legends of Sucuriju?

Truly excellent picture. I was told by an Arawak indian tribal leader of an anaconda in Guyana so huge that the hunters who saw it ran away from it. They pointed out a falled palm tree and said that the creature's head and tail would have extended out beyon it making the snake well over 40 feet long.

Technechly (I know I can't spell), a snake that big would be too heavy to move on land. Lets hope there are big enough bugs in the water to keep this thing going.
