Description (Hopefully this version will make you kids happier!)

Leaping Dinosaur
GOROSAURUS

HEIGHT: 50 meters
MASS: 23,000 metric tons

BIO:
When Faroe Island was being studied in the 1960’s, Dr. Makino and his team discovered a strange stone slab, almost 10 feet high, deep in the island’s jungle. Surrounded by what may have once been a temple, the Slab was covered in ancient runes and hieroglyphics of an unknown dialect (though similar ruins were later found in the deeper jungles of Ogasawara). On the Slab, there was a clear story being told: 4 gods once ruled this island, they being a giant beast-man, a reptile with long legs, a spiked four-legged monster, and a huge spider. They were depicted being “born” from the Slab when it fell from the stars, and the four monsters fought for dominance over the island. It wasn’t until the beast-man was appealed to by the people that he began to dominate the other 3, dispelling them to the far corners of the world - the spiked one to the north and the spider to the south. Only the leaping monster remained nearby, cast into the sea, and once the ancients built a special resonating chamber around the Slab, the reptile slept beneath the island, while the beast-man slept in the mountain within the island.
Mr. Tako, Dr. Makino’s investor, knew that the Slab would be a great scientific find and gain excellent publicity for Public Pharmaceuticals, even moreso than the soma berries, so he ordered the thing moved; something Makino advised heavily against.
Still, the damn rock was moved, and even the inch or two that it was shifted, and the mountain quaked, and KING KONG was released! After accidentally smashing the Slab, he began moving towards the village in search of soma, when a giant reptile burst from the surf…it was a massive dinosaur, easily as big as Godzilla, but with a freakish pair of powerful-looking legs...it was later named GOROSAURUS WATSONI, after Susan Watson, a member of the research team and the first person to encounter the monster. When Susan’s screams brought the rest of the team to the beach, it also brought the attention of Kong, who saved Susan from the jaws of Gorosaurus. The two titans rammed one-another, and battled ferociously until Kong nearly broke Gorosaurus’s jaw. Then, grasping the monster by the tail, he swung it far out beyond the beach, where, it was assumed, that the dinosaur decided against pursuing Kong.
After Anguirus freed Godzilla from his icy prison, Kong and the mutant saurian battled one-another in their historic bout at Mt. Fuji. Meanwhile, Gorosaurus, with no reason to return to Faroe Island, disappeared until the late 90’s, where he was discovered on Mondo Island, only a few hundred miles from Faroe. The dinosaur was considerably mellowed, but still aggressive towards humans. Still, he was rallied to Monster Island, where he was comfortable for a good while…until the Kilaak Invasion, of course.

ABILITIES/ASPECTS:
- Extraordinary jumper
- Legs contain organic “istons” which allow for incredibly powerful kicks
- Appetite for human flesh

I for one liked the original Gorosaurus design, but THIS...THIS is much better, Mista Frank. Superb.

I am SO glad you incorporated the fact Gorosaurus has some killer kicking power...but the idea of "pistons" in the legs just TAKES IT UP A NOTCH.

Can't wait for Gezora...or Season 3? Keep on KS.

Wow, really neat design, this design looks more like the actual Gorosaurus while the last one kind of put me in mind of the V-Rexes from King Kong (2005). It's safe to assume that the beastman from the tablet was Kong while the long-legged dinosaur was Gorosaurus but who were the other monsters mentioned in the hieroglyphics? I think maybe the spikey monster could have been Anguirus and the Spider was Kumonga but are those really them?

I was one of those "kids" who despised your old Gorosaurus. I'm not a fan of people turning my favorite monster into a generic-saurus.

But I must say, this design is DEFINITELY Gorosaurus. You gave him the powerful legs he deserves (the "piston" spikes are a very interesting concept for legs, and would be a fun power to tinker with). He has his trademark head, and even the fangs! The stance is perfect and the tail is thick enough to support his weight, and even has the spike!

You've pleased me.

This Gorosaurus fan approves. This design has everything that makes Goro, well, Goro - strong legs, muscular tail, and that wonderful triangular head. It's also got that wonderfully Gneo style and some awesome leg spurs - which are awesome additions that actually feel very in character for him. Excellent job.

While I looked the original design you crafted more, this one does have its charm. It looks almost like an evolutionary kaiju offshoot of something akin to Euparkaria with its head shape and overall design.

Urm... I like this design but the original was a much better Gorosaurus. Gorosaurus's must iconic feature is his big head, so the old design was a lot more like him.

Still... it's a good pick just not sure why you changed it...

Massive improvement, Matt. Not that the original wasn't awesome, but like you said, it was too generic. This one is easily recognizable as Gorosaurus. I love the head and the spikes on his legs.

KaijuSamurai In reply to Jersey-Dagmar [2009-09-26 06:46:38 +0000 UTC]

I looked back and decided that what I had originally drawn was just a generic dinosaur. Gorosaurus at least has some clout as an ass-kicking (literally) GIANT dinosaur, and should be rendered as such.

Jersey-Dagmar In reply to KaijuSamurai [2009-09-26 18:23:39 +0000 UTC]

I'm not saying it isn't good, far better then I ever could of course. I don't know. It just might be the blue, to me when I think Gorosaurus, blue isn't the first color I think of.

RenDragonClaw [2009-09-26 06:11:18 +0000 UTC]

Now this, is Gorosaurus. Still has the Neo style but is definitely more in character. Those leg spurs are a nice addition, makes the major weapons that much more noticable. I had a feeling you'd go for a slightly kangaroo like posture to better suit Gorosaurus's fighting style. Some influence from the Uchusen made it in there too with the colors.

Story wise, I'm not all that troubled that Gorosaurus isn't immediately mentioned as drop kicking King Ghidorah. King Kong Escapes was his first appearance after all, its fitting his origins start there. Now this slab idea, thats pretty cool. So Kong, Gorosaurus, Kumonga, and Anguirus all started on the same island and Kong being the voice of the people, pushed them out. It almost has a four divine beasts angle to it. Byakko being subsituted for Kong, Seiryu substituted for Gorosaurus, Genbu being substituted for Anguirus and Suzaku being substituted by Kumonga. So its almost a tropical four divine beasts set up. I'm a fan of that old legend so I'm enjoying the rather subtle theme going on Faroe Island.

Well done Matt, you have appeased the Showa gods.

RenDragonClaw In reply to GodzillaKiryu91 [2009-09-27 01:13:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes, considering its a Neo there is going to be comic influences anyway. Some might complain that its too thin still. At this point I don't really give a shit. He looks mostly feasible and his primary features are once again present. The bio is a nice compromise and goes back even further that the one shot of glory that most people remember.

I agree. I like this piece a lot myself. About th ebio, do you think the meteor mentioned mutated, or awoke the four?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RenDragonClaw In reply to GodzillaKiryu91 [2009-09-27 01:54:58 +0000 UTC]

I have a feeling they were mutated as Anguirus seems to be rather fond of ruins that hold a similar feeling to the slab and generally just being woken up doesn't create that kind of positive reaction to a foreign object, especially in an animal. They all fought over it if thats any indication of how important the thing was.
