Description (Yup. THIS one is gonna' piss some people off However, on a personal note, I actually PREFER the original conceptualization of the Shobijin, specifically that they never NEEDED some long-winded rationalization of their existance. They're just weird and cute and mystical for the heck of being weird, cute and mystical. However, since this is Neo, and I endeavor to destroy your childhood, please enjoy the following long-winded rationalization )

(I also tried very hard to emulate the traditional tribal tattoos of Polynesian islanders in this redesign, instead of generic douchyness)

Twin Beauties
THE SHOBIJIN

Height - 30 centimeters
Mass - How rude!

Bio -
"Are there still mysteries in the world? Or has it all been discovered? We bring to you tonight one of the great mysteries of the world, discovered on one of the remote South Seas Islands...those places of mystery, adventure and romance, of which we have heard so much, and know so little. And now, ladies and gentlemen...the miracle!"
- Carl Nelson, Deceased.

The SHOBIJIN, the name by which they are referred to by the world at large, are nothing less than the Metatron of the world of kaiju - they speak for the monsters, for the monsters have no...okay, they have tongues, but can't really vocalize-YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. Specifically, they exist in a symbiotic relationship with the gigantic Moth-Beast-God, MOTHRA, and serve as her direct line to humanity. These tiny twins were the (supposedly) only surviving members of the long-lost Elias civilization that once inhabited Earth. Having weathered the terrible war between Mothra and her dark twin BATTRA (not to mention the whole Gigamass War...thing), the Goddess of Peace turned her attention to these tiny twins, and took them, literally and figuratively, under her wing. Bestowing great power upon the two, they became her devoted servants, their minds now open to a higher power, and watched over the development of the people of Earth from afar. However, as humankind descended into increasingly violent wars and intolerance, the Shobijin withdrew to their island sanctuary, where a choice few joined them, seeking harmony, peace and nirvana over materialism, conquest and cruelty. Eventually, Infant Island became cut off from the world at large, and it wasn't until the 1960's, after being exposed to radioactive fallout, that the world became aware of this paradise within hell. The Fire of the Gods, as the natives call it, nearly destroyed the island paradise. Even Mothra, who had been asleep within her egg for millennia, was all but powerless to stop the blight upon her home. It is said that the Sacred Drink was a gift from Mothra to protect life on the island, which the natives took themselves, as well as to the odd shipwrecked survivor.
Eventually, an expedition was made to the island, funded by one Carl Nelson, a wealthy profiteer of Rolisica. Nelson saw a unique opportunity in these tiny twins, and abducted them.

We all know what happened next. Don't kidnap the symbiotic psychic foster-children of a giant all-powerful Kaiju God. It's....it's just not sound reasoning.

Believe it or not, the Shobijin had no scorn for humanity upon their rescue. They eventually returned to Japan to plead for the return of Mothra's egg, but only upon Godzilla's reappearance did they manage to reacquire the newly hatched larvae. After this unity between Japan and Infant Island, the Shobijin traveled again to the small country on the "Where's Mothra Tour,"

Abilities/Aspects -
- Mostly unknown, defined telepathic powers, however.

Not to be stereotyping, but the tribal tattoos actually make a lost of sense. Call me crazy, but the idea of the Shobijin having tattoos seems familiar, like it crossed my mind somehow. Great minds think alike, I guess?

And who's up next...AAAAAUGH! THE MONSTER, SHUKRAAAAAAAAA!

Good to see G-Neo Series 3 is under way.

I don't see why people would be pissed off. It really doesn't sound that different than the origin from the 1992 movie mixed with the 60s films with a bit of Neo thrown in.

By the way, this picture definately shows how great you've become at drawing people, I'm jealous.

And OMG Shukra?! It took me a few seconds but then I remembered the beginning of Godzilla vs Gigan. Who's next after that, Mamagon?

You know, I actually prefer the Shobjin like this. Now they look like real islanders instead of two shrunken down Japanese barbie dolls (not that I have a problem with that). The tattoos make them look ancient and mystical...I like that!

Can't wait for Shukra....the Monster of Homework!

The shobijin were always supposed to be Pacific Islanders. That tattoo style looks more Maori-inspired than anything found among native North Americans.

Good work on this piece and I love the attire you designed for them, good use of colors as well overall.
(although takes some getting used to their darker skin color since it wasn't in any of the movies)

I... rather like the concept. They didn't really LOOK like they were mythical twins from a far south-seas island before--now, however, they really do! I love the tattoos on them, and the way that they just LOOK like a pair of cute, weird, and mythical twins. The overall design is very well done. I'm looking forward to this series!

No ruining the childhood here, and they actually look fitting to their background information. The original Shojibin were cute yes but they came off as a J-pop idols in a can rather than island mystic fey folk. I like the gradient glow there on the tattoos and the juxtaposing poses that indicate unity but individuality at the same time.

Honestly, I'm glad that this version of the twins doesn't have me checking my blood sugar.

Hmm, I have no complaints, really.

'Tis actually a more truer representation of the Shobijin/Cosmos than in the films, with the more tribal aspects and such.

Honestly, when I heard GNeo series 3 was gonna be mostly humans with a few kaiju here and there (and I'm realllly hoping out for some) I was quite skeptical. However once again you've proven me wrong. You took everything there should be there in the shobijin and reworked it into a beautiful piece of art/addition to G Neo/story. So kudos, thank you, and quite happy G-Neo is back for a triumphant finale.

That being said... Shukra?
