People keep calling him a guy, because it's what he was. A guy, that could get pregnant, but a guy noneless. It is more aperant in the novelisation, but even the movie should have made it clear, since Nick didn't correct himself, but just said "a very unusual he", upon discovering, that Godzilla was pregnant.
