Okay, I just want to dissect this quote for a second here:
1) No, it was NOT awesome to make him just an animal, it completely misses the point of what Godzilla should be. 2) ...What? It gave Zilla '98 CHARACTER? What the fuck planet do you LIVE on? If it's just an animal, it's just a dumb stupid animal, whom nobody should care about, which is sad, because it's supposed to be Godzilla, who has PLENTY of character. 3) How is Zilla in the least bit believable? He's supposed to be an iguana, but he CLEARLY looks like a box-headed Theropod with backwards shark-fins along his back. Not to mention his body frame would NEVER realistically nor believably support Zilla's supposed weight. 4) Gracious? Zilla '98 was a fucking coward, how is that gracious? 5) What the hell did Zilla 98 Stand for? He was just a dumb animal on the loose in New York trying to multiply and continue his species. There's no moral in that, there's no underlying message. What the fuck is he even TALKING about? 6) "Bad People and Bullies"? "Bad and Arrogant people"? LOL that's so fucking cute. We're not bad nor arrogant, if anything YOU'RE the arrogant and ignorant sonofabitch around here, Turok, what with you continuously trying to shove your opinion down other people's throats and shrugging off the truth nonstop. 7) Exactly, MISSILES. Godzilla. Doesn't. Die. From. Fucking. MISSILES. Oh, and that "broken heart" shit is just bullshit. He's a Lizard, Lizard's abandon their young after a few weeks and forget they even existed.

Hey not all of Millenium was bad:
GMK was the best of that series, and considered by most fans one of the best G-movies.
And the Kyriu movies weren't bad either.

Don't get me wrong, I like all the Millenium films, but they failed big time to impress me as much as the Heisei Era did. This is just my opinion, and please don't take it as something negative, criticism will always be present.

I was not generalizing my statement to just Zilla as you so perniciously want to believe, but the franchise as a whole, as i've previously stated.
I personally prefer the more experimental productions of the latter-day showa era because they show what the franchise can be capable of if someone just simply throws out the rulebook and takes creative chances with the property - something that not only Toho themselves clearly aren't intent on doing as of late, but they're also doing everything to ensure that whoever touches the property stays in that minimal and wholly unsatisfying crawlspace of intellectual confinement.
But then again, judging from the content of your statement in your reply, you probably wouldn't have it any other way since you are obviously at one with the collective herd mentality that anything that doesn't measure up to your fucked up standard of perfection should never be acknowledged as part of the complete detail for the property as a collective artistic whole.

I find myself in agreement with your stance on a couple counts:
(1) "OG GOJI K1LLZ EV3RYDING IN SECONDZ" types are flat-out tiresome;
(2) said fanatics need to let the GINO hate go already;
and (3) the 70s were wacky, whimsical & above all fun. Matter of fact, the supposedly hardcore Heisei era wound up employing at least as many wacky elements (e.g. goofy human leads, moth-fairies, and friggin' Space Godzilla), albeit with clunkier creature designs.
Some respect for the original concepts is warranted, but I've definitely noticed the stale, stifling atmosphere hardcore Acolytes of Canon(C) can generate. All we can do, sadly, is roll eyes & continue perusing those with something fresh to contribute.

Ugh, what you said is actually really true... people need to get over Zilla "ruining Godzilla" in 1998, because:
1-It's been 15 years.
2-The Zilla Name Change--we don't have to call Zilla "Godzilla" anymore.
3-If you don't like the 1998 film, don't watch it! Avoid it, and don't talk about it!
4-Zilla Jr. made up for the 1998 film "disaster".
5-The 1998 film is a summer pop-corn movie, and you should treat it as such, if it's not GODzilla (which it is not), then just don't talk about it as a Godzilla movie!
6-I dunno, but there are G-fans out there that hate Gamera, Clover, and other monsters because they are "not Godzilla".
I'm a very big Godzilla fan, but I like Zilla, and Gamera, and all those things. I don't try to go all radical fanboy, and I hope to see Zilla get an actual fight. However, Godzilla haters (who hate Godzilla for absolutely no reason, or for extremely stupid reasons) aren't justified by that (ones that have good reasons and aren't evil about it, are).

I can't express how excited I got when I saw this. Zilla has always been one of my favorite monsters (yes even when the movie came out in 1998), and it's gonna be great to see him get some attention outside his brief appearance in Final Wars.

So I've been skimming the last several pages and have noted that several fellow Deviants are carrying on some sort of extreme flame-war and have noted several instances of deliberate trolling. I'm stepping in now to kindly ask that everyone ease up and not sit there and bait each other over and over again. Healthy debate is fine but aggressively insulting one-another is NOT going to dominate my Deviantart comment threads.
If I have to step in again, I will start banning people.
And for the record, Toho makes zero distinction between "Zilla" and "Godzilla 1998" with the exception of title alone. The film itself is recognized as "Godzilla," as is the animated series. "Zilla Jr." is a fan-created name to emulate "Godzilla Junior." Ever since 2004, Toho's official stance has been that any future incarnations of the character be referred to hereafter as "Zilla."
Also, for the record, the animated series Zilla is not within our net of licenses, nor do I think we would be able to obtain it.

Actually, he just said that Toho makes "zero distinction" between "GODZILLA 1998" and Zilla-- which means that Toho does not see them as different, at all. That, accompained by the 1998 character and logo trademarks being cancelled and abandoned, is the best proof that the name change's true.
Also, since Matt's good friends with the people at Toho, he absolutely knows what they think. Matt Frank just saying that the name change is true, is the ultimate official statement. Thanks, Matt! You've went from being hugely awesome to being extremely awesome!

Well, he's not the ultimate proof, but it is proof. The name change is still true in a sense, but to call the earlier creatures prior to 2004 for Zilla is still illogical in my opinion. Despite if they makes zero distinction between the creatures, my opinion stands on the contrary, but this is just my opinion.
