Is there a reason why IDW prefers the Showa design of Gigan? I mean, don't get me wrong, it's the original, but I think it might be a little more interesting if they used the Final Wars design of the character.

This reminds me of a scene from the old children's book "Godzilla vs Gigan and the Smog Monster," where Gigan is breaking free from the Earth. Nice story, and this is a really nice shot

Actually, this isn't the first time Gigan has busted out of the ground; he's done it before. In a kids book known as Godzilla vs. Gigan and the Smog Monster (I know, soooo original, lol), Gigan first emerges straight from the ground. Then there's that GFW bit, but I'm sure you know that already.
