Finally finished! Definitely nice to get some more Zelda/Metroid art out there.

These are my two favorite Nintendo characters. And it's taken me a long time to figure out why: they're the respective sci-fi/fantasy versions of each other.
Think about it. Samus's suit has a ton of upgrades and features, including multiple beams, missiles, and bombs, even several armors, and a handful of utility add-ons like the Grapple Beam and Spider Ball Upgrade. Yes, it's all incorporated into her suit, but she still has a nice big inventory. And nothing serves purely as a weapon. There is always some additional utility use that opens up new paths and makes getting around easier.
Then you have Link. His mean weapon is a sword, most often the Master Sword, kind of like how Samus has her cannon, but it isn't his only weapon. Bows, bombs, boomeranges, hookshots, magic rods, a ball and chain, transforming into a wolf, magic spells through crystals, coins, and talismans. Armor in the form of actual suits to defense-boosting rings. And again, everything has a utility; or in some cases can be combined to make them even better. The Hookshot is Link's version of the Grapple Beam and the Iron Boots allow him to walk on lodestone deposits in Twilight Princess like Samus can roll across mag-rail cargo tracks with the Spider Ball.
Like I said, they're the sci-fi or fantasy version of the other, which is probably why I love them so much. It's also why they much such a strong couple that people get behind. They may work on different scales, Link in Hyrule and Samus with the galaxy, and fight in different ways, but they are both so versatile and their games constantly engaging because you find new uses and new ways to use their gear each time you play. They really play to each other's strengths and are just so compatible with each other that seeing them together just seems so natural.

I've lived my life loving both these franchises and constantly comparing them to each other (although I always favored Metroid just a little bit more...) but I'm so freakin' glad someone's finally put them on the same side. So epic. :')
