I may have to show off more single frames from my webcomic, they can be really cute as standalone pictures.

Ooh this is too sweet! You said that this was taken close to dusk so I assume this was actually taken outside in the snow?

Yes, that's real snow. I didn't make a snow set or anything. I was fortunate that it had such a nice soft texture for photographing.
And the cats seem to hold up to the cold and the elements pretty well. I wouldn't wanna drop them on a hard surface, but getting a little wet doesn't hurt them.

I'm assuming that they don't end up re-absorbing water, or that the paint doesn't smear then?

I've never noticed anything bad happen to the paint. Acrylics can be damaged by water, but the varnish seal seems to protect them. I've even washed these guys a few times, specifically after the beach comic. I try not to get them too dirty, I need them to last.

They're covered in a pretty tough varnish. I do 2-4 coats on all sides and it's very waterproof. Also, since they're polymer clay instead of air dry it's not like they really could re-absorb water (though they are porous so they could theoretically get moldy if I didn't carefully dry 'em out).

Aah, I see why you are favouring the polymer clay so much.

Technically ceramics would last longer, but I don't have access to a kiln. I also I wouldn't really be taking proper advantage of the glazes since I want a flat non-shiny finish and lots of control over how the lines/colors come out. Polymer clay is more durable than ceramics, and it's shatter resistant so even if it breaks you can make seamless repairs. Plus it cures in a regular oven. I luffs it.

(sadly, mere words cannot express how cute I find this... )
I just love the idea that instead of building a snowman, cats build a snow cat. XD I think I'll try making a snow cat next time there's snow!

Lol! I definitely will next time I convince the rest of my family that we need to drive up a mountain and play in the snow! (We have to drive for hours to get to snow - it hasn't snowed near where I live for a while... XD)

Sorry you haven't had any snow recently! I guess that's a good thing in some ways. But I still hope you get an opportunity to play in it.
