The first lesson was all about how to stay in the trees. How to cling to the slightest twig even in the strongest winds. How to walk along boughs and keep a secure footing, even in a blind run.The last lesson was about how to fall.
How to touch the ground for the first time, ever, just before the white sheets moved in and blanketed the earth. How to stay safe and hidden under the snow banks, and wait for warmer times.
Still green and uncertain, marveling at the twinkling twilight of autumn, the child was ready to take this first leap.

This is such a wonderful and touching photo. It's also a great lesson for all parents/guardians. Children definitely need to learn that life isn't all about successes and getting through rough times. Life can sometimes bring things that cause one to stumble and w/o having had the right guidance they may not know how to get up. Again, great job on this photo. It makes me want to get into photography.

I started coming to this site years ago and it basically reawakened my interest in drawing/painting/photography again, after seeing all the amazing things other people were doing. So the idea that I might create something that inspires others is very moving. Thank you so much.

I use Zig Writers for the black, usually, but nothing stops you from using plain 'ole Sharpie. It just has to not be a water-based marker. I've found that Zig Writer photographs a little easier than sharpie, and is a little more opaque, but if you're scanning the leaves instead of trying to photograph them in scenes it doesn't matter.
Some of the colored leaves I used sharpie or Prismacolor markers for.
