The idea behind this is so beautiful! I love the shading on the leaves too! Was that intentional, or did it come like that?

A lot of the shading is added by me, but some of it is to cover up some of the places where the leaves have browned. By November there usually aren't pure yellow leaves without 'flaws' anymore, so I try to incorporate the imperfections into the drawings. But that also means I'm sometimes adding brown where there really isn't brown. Also light pinks and other colours look rich and earthy when backlit. The leaves look fundamentally different when held up to the light.

Thank you for explaining your process to me! How long did this take to make overall?

I'm not sure how long it took. Most of it has to be done very quickly because the leaves fade and become unusable otherwise. The drawings probably took a few hours and then the setup and photography a few more. It was probably done in small amounts of time over several days. I don't remember the precise details, I usually do multiple leaf projects simultaneously.

It sounds like a lot of work, but in the end, it's worth it!

Neat idea. Did you keep and preserve any of these or did you hope for a stranger passing by to find joy in such creativity?

I've kept and preserved some, and left some. Some get composted. I'm really not organized about any of this. Some leaves are held to trees with tape and I never want to leave anything that isn't biodegradable, so in those cases I always take them with me.
I've been thinking this year that maybe I'll send some leaves to my friends with letters. I've thought about doing resin preservation before... but I don't have experience with it. We'll see! Thanks for your thoughts.

I agree with the environmental awareness and the idea to send letters containing these; sounds cute. And thanks for your thoughts as well; I read some of them in the philosophy and religion forum. It seemed to me like you have a talent for putting your thoughts into words in an understandable way and was wondering whether you were perhaps a writer, so I checked out your profile.

This so reminds me of the lost miller boys in the tale of Krabat from the old, animated film. Like lost souls. This is astounding!

I like this version of the story more than the new movie. But you should read the book first. I love it!

I like how you used the shape of the leaves to create heads with hair! Great colour and contrast
