Very nice illustration of Mortanius, plus the redesign looks really creative.Β

Thank you. That's one of the good things about old games and their low polygon characters that it's left to the imagination to readapt them into a realistic scene.Β

Both a puppet and a force of his own, I like the concept of this piece very much, Mortaniius looks dark yet serene.

Wow, a really great interpretation of Mortanius! I like how his expression is both calm and stern, I really like it.

Hmm true that Mortanius used Kain as a puppet but for all the right reasons, he saw the error that had been made, just a shame that realisation was in defiance and not in the original blood omen

Defiance was overblown by sentimentalism and pathos so not a loss Blood Omen didn't made Kain the righteous goodguy with that scion of balance thing.

I almost wonder if the original Mortanius design even had a shirt. He's so thin and looks so gross, I think those were his ribs and muscles sticking out.
What you did here looks good. I wish I could go into more detail, but I'm having trouble phrasing it.
Are rib cages difficult to make?

KainTheVampireLord In reply to The-Vile-Cortex [2015-08-22 23:16:52 +0000 UTC]
I was thinking of that too, the original sketch looked like a zombie, the CGI character's ribs on the other hand were too large to be his own but that's the good in scarce visual reference, it's up to me how to imagine it. I was thinking of something similar stoff to the bone armour. Kain's wear also needed several change, the low polygon CGI model's stuff doesn't works on a realistic proportioned body.
Nope, just pick the right person and boil the flesh and tissue off the bones
Actually the ribcages weren't difficult, didn't counted if it actually has the anatomy correct number of bones, just meant it to be a mages' wear.Β

I love the Blood Omens too but to be honest as the other line kept disappointing I stopped following the series.

They all followed each other. The thing that males it so is the story line. The time line within the LOK series kept changing and can sometimes get so confusing. It was like Inception over and over again.

Was one of the Soul Reavers your first game?Β

WolfsbaneWolfen In reply to KainTheVampireLord [2015-08-22 19:29:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. The first Soul Reaver. At the time, I didn't know Blood Omen even existed. I know how the first Soul Reaver ended and how the events in SR 2 affected the time-line pf the history within the LOK lore history. Blood Omen 2 as well, was affected by the time paradox if I'm not mistaken. Then came the LOK: Defiance game.Β

Bingo! That's where our perspective on the series differ. No offense, the pattern is always the same depends on the game you played first. Soul Reaver players are awestruck by the whole series (and usually dislike Blood Omen 2) while the Blood Omen players experience the Soul Reaver side as a shock. I too had to check the box if I really really bought the right game as the Soul Reavers/Defiance were so alien from that experience the Blood Omens gave and the exchanging of Kain't character and role didn't helped to make the Soul Reaver side feel like belonging to Blood Omen. Understood which side is preferred by the developers so decided not to keep following the series.
Blood Omen 2 was affected by the time paradox in some levels, for example Vorador's revival, corruption was gone due to that ritual in the spirit forge which also released Ariel so she was no more the part of the story in Blood Omen 2.Β

Wow. You're as big a LOK fan than I am. I'm a big fan but even I could not explain all that. Makes me wish I had a PS2 Β for BO 2 and SR 2. BO I'd want to play too. I grew up with SR and Defiance.Β

In some levels can say so. These games are great artistic inspiration too. The time travel and paradoxes are not too hard to understand if you're the fan of sci-fi, nothing feels difficult after Asimov's novels.Β
By the time I met these games they were already old, played them on pc, the good side is Blood Omen still works even on newer systems. I grew up with the Tomb Raider series but the Blood Omens became the favourite gaming experience, I guess because of the unique dark world and a sadistic anti-hero with selfish interests in the main role where no one can be divided to goods and bads.Β

Thank you. I've got only the concept sketch and the 1996's CGI as visual references which weren't too much, it took some creativity to adapt the characters to a realistic scene. Β
