there are some people who always thinks that you can live without your art supplies(art in general) and move on without it, because to them; art isn't a career where you would get tons of money out of it in the end, WRONG.
People always thinks that, by doing something else besides ART, you have a life of worth doing something. Can I tell you folks that, I CAN'T live without art? art is an education were you'd possibly get the most of the payment than anything else as a job. without art in general, how would you get all the fancy technology and measurements to HELP you on your job? Explain that folks, GOD GAVE US THIS TELNT TO HELP YOU! or as I normally say ti to people, we have the hand's of God of making creations in Life.
Now i don't think that this stamp has much relativeness towards what I typed here, but it shows that we artists can't seem to live without having to draw; it's like people who can't seem to live without drugs or cigarretts, except being addicted to art is much better than the bad things lol.

And belive me you are not helping people by drawing pretty pictures, thats just bullshit, most people dont even think about where the pictures in the media came from.
Just enjoy it in solitude, thats the smart thing to do.

I know what you're saying about needing art...but I think the way you list these items as being so important undermines your message. You can make art without these things you know? You can write a book with a pencil and paper or, obviously, make a drawing with a pencil and paper. Obviously if you make your art on the computer, it's important, but to phrase it as being the most important thing in the world, while hyperbolic, just seems that you value it over anything else and it doesn't have to be that way. I can't live without the creation of art, would be a more succinct and truer phrase. We live in a time when just about everyone is addicted to their computer, games, the internet and I'd be willing to be that this speaks to that for the people faving more than it does their desire for personal creativity. Remember, technology is great, but it's also nice we can turn it off sometimes.

dont forget the artists with music. musicians are paid pretty damn well if they are good... or just popular... id like to think music is art along with painting drawing sculpting and all those other things... expect 90% of abstract art... bleh... anyway. i completely agree with your statements and the heart of what you are saying... if people think artists can live without their art... tell them to imagine what the world would be like without music, poems and color...

Hey, in your comment. The importance of art isn't just in it's pay check. It's that tiny window to our soul. It's our deepest and most inner thoughts. It's an emotion to be conveyed, and to not have any association with art (whatsoever) is simply like walking aroung like an empty shell. So what you're saying is true, we really can't live without art. Did you know in concentration camps, where people need to depend on anything and everything people did not find food, beg, or anything? Instead, they drew, wrote, and sang. That just shows how much art means to humans. ^0^

1. There are a huge number of stamp collectors on DA (myself included 
and
2. It's message is SO TRUE to many of us.

i can see, and i make stamps too even when i'm in school lab within 10 minutes and i can understand. my new stamp "Damn gay, i'm straight" is not so perfect and finished yet, the bottom border on the stamp needs to be worked out. but i will do it.

Yeah, I'm jonesing because my Intuos4 is just sitting on my floor, waiting to be shipped off to Wacom for servicing and there are night and day differences between it and my old Intuos3 which I'm using as a backup for now, and I don't even do much drawing/painting with it.

Guh! I can't tell you how many times people have told me "There are no jobs whatsoever in art" and that I should "go into business". Excuuuse me, but do you pay attention to the world? Commercials, CG effects, cartoons, video games, computer programs, ads, magazines, book covers, website deigns, ect (I could go on forever) all rely on art. Hell, the only reason we even have clothes or live in houses is because of artists and designers! Sorry for ranting, but it makes me mad when people don't respect artists, because truly, it takes artists of all types to make the world go 'round.
