L is surprised that Light is allowed to walk around freely and is cooperating with the Wammy kids.
Light feels guilty and tries to make it up to L.
Mello still can't forgive Light for what he's done, doesn't trust him, and still has a crush on L. (And stares at Light with green eyes of jealousy.)

Oh and L has a patchy beard because he was held hostage for months (couldn't get a daily shave), and Light started donning the mustache ( just like his dad) some time after he got his new identity (Julian Lambert).
