thanks! I deciphered the Japanese on my Pocky. I got the a different flavor of pocky and wanted to know what it was, so I figured it out!
No, I'm not an otaku or whatever. I've liked Pocky even when I didn't know a single thing about anime.

What ways would you suggest to learn this? Like copying it out or ... something like that? Should I buy myself a note book?

Your name is probably something like "Di-ra-n(Diran)"
In Japanese There isn't L, but R replaces the L sound.

Ah
'Deeran.'
Um...What?
Hurr Hurr...
๐: 0 โฉ: 2
KenChanCake In reply to Yasaro [2011-08-14 11:52:35 +0000 UTC]
Well, Well Deeran would sound like "Day-rawn" And Diran would sound like "Dee-rawn" due to the way vowels are pronounced in Japanese.
A = Ah
I = Ee
U = Ooh
E = Eh
O = Oh
It's the same as Spanish, among other languages.
In Japanese there is no L sound, but instead the R sound replaces it because the Japanese touch their tongues to the roof of the mouth to create the R sound, instead of curling the tongue backwards like in the English language. This sound is actually similar to the L sound, but is considered to be an R sound.

This should be very helpful to me. I am teaching myself japanese and i find it harder to memorize/learn hiragana than katakana probably because katakana has many foriegn words. (i have learned many country names from hetalia which were all written in katakana except for china and japan witch i think are kanji)

I have a problem. I have hirangana notes at home I got off a free japanese learning site but the ''ri'' I have seems wrong, it's not the same one you have and I checked google translate (though it's pretty much useless for eng-japanese) and the one you have comes up. But I also see the one I have on video subtitles all the time, so I'm very confused and I don't want to learn the language wrong so is there more then one way to write it or a correct way???

The pronoucniation is complicated sometimes, moreso putting all the different syallables together and then pronoucing them. I actually don't find the writing too bad ^_^
Japanese is such a beautiful langauge! When your writing the symbols your also making art!!

I really like that you are doing this! I really appreciate it! I've been watching subbed anime and I have picked up quite a few things on pronunciation and stuff, but I haven't connected them to the characters yet. So this is really nice way to learn. Thanks again!
