Um, shouldn't it be 'chi' instead of 'ti' and 'fu' instead of 'hu'?
(likewise, 'di' should be 'ji' or something, I think?)
I have no idea but I heard from somewhere it's like this?

I'm trying to learn Japanese so when my "Japorean" (Japanese and Korean) friend speaks Japanese to confuse us I won't be confused.
Just wondering, how do you pronounce the "owe" and "tsu" sounds?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Kaleioki In reply to Wazupz [2011-04-10 18:32:11 +0000 UTC]
"o" is pronounced like the english "o" but shorter. "tsu" is like saying sue really short and adding a touch of a "t" sound before it ---> "t-sue" really fast, not a hard t though

I know this might sound stupid but after the vowels you start showing k's,m;s etc with with ka,ki,ku etc. what are those? jw

Kaleioki In reply to Karshaforever [2010-09-06 21:05:34 +0000 UTC]
Those are the rest of the letters. They go in a certain order, like the English alphabet. Everything in Japanese is phonetic, so it's sound based/syllable based.

Phonetic is spelling a word how it sounds.

I have a question. When it shows the vowels, for 'O', the pronunciation says 'owe'. Does that mean like 'oh' or 'oh-ee'? I'd assume that it would sound like 'oh', but I just want to make sure.

Kaleioki In reply to Mikaelah98 [2010-08-25 15:30:55 +0000 UTC]
"Oh" - Some people prefer the spelling of the sound used in phonics. You're right though!!!

Very good, actually. I shifted my goals a bit, though I'm still learning Japanese. I just learned basics of conversation, however. Nothing to brag about. With these two exchange students from Russia and Germany, Nikolai and Diedrick, I've been focused on those languages.

I love this *Q*
I just want to correct something : in Japanese there isn't a "hu" sound but "fu". The "fu" character also means "fuuton" as for wind :3

Kaleioki In reply to Mayumi-Yuu [2010-08-15 03:26:06 +0000 UTC]
I'm well aware. Same goes for r's. It's that odd combo of r and l. Pronunciation is left to the individual in these. My professor always wrote in "hu" though.
