Description Ground Combat System 643 is a tracked armored vehicle designed to provide heavy fire support, particularly in urban environments. Armament includes a 140.82mm cannon in an uncrewed turret. This cannon is also capable of launching optically guided missiles of the same type commonly used by GCS-1209  and many other systems. This variant also sports a remotely-operated 70.62mm mortar for indirect fire support and twin  8.22mm machineguns. Use in conjunction with Ground Combat System 252 ,  and GCS-223 , it has proven extremely effective.

Pictured along with the vehicle is its “organic component”. The doctrine of Keeping, the polity which manufactures this particular tank,  considers vehicles and operators to be components of a single combat system. He wears a protective suit and the recently-developed immersive display helmet which provides information on vehicle systems and provides views from mounted cameras and other sensors. This gear marks him and his vehicle as part of the Consolidated Will rather than one of Keeping's local militias.

Illustration by whom I highly recommend for any creature or vehicle design needs you may have. Camouflage by whom I recomend for any camouflage design needs you may have.

I am the original creator of the galkgrokst. Please don't use them or this image for anything. That would make you an unimaginative creep.

This tank is dead to me. I have two tanks that are more suited to combat than this.

BTW Nice job with the art.

This is a real beauty of a tank, though I have a few questions, if I may.

  • What's an "unscrewed" turret?
  • What's that red light between the headlamps?
  • How does the "organic component" enter the tank?  I mean, I know that there's a clearly designated hatch, but what about the wheels and supporting struts and what-have-you inbetween and all that?

I can imagine what the helmet-mounted display would look like.
    That would be interesting.

And I can imagine that those headlights would be very bright, like powerful scanner lamps.

    I like it.

Anteeksi. I only know enough to try and be polite in a restaurant or on the street, I'm afraid.

What lead to the difference in tank designs, specifically the switch from a quad-tread layout on the GCS-223 to the two-tread layout for this tank?

Is it due to the need for stability as a firing platform or some other reason?

Also, is the barrel centered or is it offside, because I can't tell from this angle.

The barrel is definitely off-center, you're not seeing things.

As for the difference in design between this and the Infantry Support Tank, it stems from a non-technical source; the whim of the project head. The cult of personality is very much the order of the day in all aspects of galkgrokst life, and a superior in the hierarchy is generally considered a superior in skill, knowledge, and all other fields. So when the word comes down from the oligarch "Two treads, not four", the natural thing to do is assume this is the best decision.

Ugh, no! All those strong, tough, flexible tentacles, and that nasty beak-like cutting surface at the front of the mouth! Not to mention that one could hold your arms behind your back while stabbing you and slitting your throat. No thank you.

Long range ballistics. Effective since its invention.

140.82, 70.62 & 8.22mm ? Are those numbers significant, or did you just pull them out of your.. ear?

Keeping and the United States would get along--neither uses the metric system! The measurements are nice round numbers in the system used by these guys, but they come out somewhat odd in our system.

Aaah, that- makes sense. I didn't consider that the metric units would be translated from another system. That's an excellent bit of fluff for the setting- well done!
While the US may be sadly metric-impaired, the US military does use the metric system- so that we can actually be understood by the rest of NATO.
I occasionally get funny looks from retailers inquiring about the price of 5.56 or 7.62mm ammunition, but everyone knows 9mm, and one can buy a liter of Coke anywhere. The US is schizophrenic about the metric system.
