Description A cousin of Pecheur-Couronne .
The real-world reference for this one may be harder to guess, but it's also the cousin of Pecheur-Couronne 's source of idea, so if u guess that one, u should be able to come up with this as well

Bienvenue dans ma galerie

(I hope that is correct form, I haven't used French for ages)

If you're interested in more French breeds, they are scattered all over my Temeraire gallery . Some newer examples:

You based them on a pigeon?

Nope, it was a Belted Kingfisher

Nice interpretation. Pecheurs are the most ill-described breed. We know almost nothing but their stripes's colors. They also have no special abilities and used as basis for other breeds.

Oh, there's some info on their stripes' colours? I hope it's not very different form what I did (since I was not aware there was any description of them at all).

Wow! Another good one! I realy like this one as well. I love this blue color especially.

Kalia24 In reply to Mc-Jayster [2015-03-10 11:01:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the blue is nice - tried to make it as vibrant as it's on the bird I took as reference and I think it's quite good.
It was surprisingly hard to shade tough - no idea if it's because of the program I'm using (which has some flaws), my monitor or my eyes (blue is the colour we see the worst), but eventually I managed it somehow.

It turned out really well, so I guess the struggle was worth it.

KeizerHarm [2015-03-09 21:49:07 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this one is just beautiful! Those darker smudgy stripes on the wings, I can't really tell if they're brown or olive, but those legs, tail and that head are just amazing! I compare this to the Longwing, and see you have really improved on the shading.

One question though: what's with his odd "thumb" claw? Wouldn't it be pretty awkward and useless positioned that way?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalia24 In reply to KeizerHarm [2015-03-09 22:14:15 +0000 UTC]

In fact they are graphite-grey, but the surrounding brown background may play tricks on your eyes.
Yeah, I'm still learning + at Lindorm I started using a bit different technique of drawing to improve shape/shading part of my pieces (seems it works).

As for the claw - I put it this way because I felt like giving "fishers" some "fish-hooks". So they thumbs are pretty useless if they would try to use them like we do, but are good transportation tools (like when they catch a big fish and want to carry it ashore, they don't need to hold their grab on it all the way - they just hang it on their hooks).

*gasp* Stop telling me of how colours appear different because of the background, internet, I thought after last week we were finally done with it!

Ok, sounds fun, although not very practical 3/4 times. But that's your interpretation

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalia24 In reply to KeizerHarm [2015-03-10 07:37:16 +0000 UTC]

Yep, I know. Just thought it would be ok - since they're the most popular breeds, ppl don't really bother to improve them (like Yellow Reapers in Britain), so they're still in shape they were living in the wild (probably only slightly bigger due to regular meals) and in the wild animals spend most of their time searching for food, which makes this 3/4 a little smaller
