What a wonderful photo. I love the close up shot of the chimp's face. The sad expression on its face just seds the mood. The viewer can look at it for hours and not get tired. That human like face has a story to tell. The fact that the photo is in black and white just adds to the photo. Also, good use of negative space to keep the focus on the face of the chimp.Β

The composition was sort of forced...I forget what it was - maybe other monkeys doing something distracting. That one was quite depressed looking though (but I bet if we were stuck in a glass cage we'd be pretty sad too)
Thanks again

You ought to be saying ape instead of monkey.Β
They have bee been known to go crazy in captivity. They were not meant to be in cages. It's like taking a human being and putting it in a cage and taking photos of it and creating a ruckus.

I suppose you're right there
I've heard dogs and cats even go a bit depressed if kept in modern human-like conditions for long too .

Yup, that is why keep a pet is such a tough choice.

Kamal-Q In reply to Clicketyclickclick [2015-08-09 13:54:47 +0000 UTC]
that maybe why it's best to keep an edible pet

Would you be able to kill a pet though?

perhaps if it was delicious enough?

Dude - surely a monster would eat its pets regardless of deliciousness
I have standards

Then they are not pets more as cattle which you are fattening up.

Are you saying one can't keep pet cattle?

Clicketyclickclick In reply to Kamal-Q [2015-08-09 14:43:34 +0000 UTC]
No because a pet is an animal you have for purposes other than eating. I would never be able to eat a pet chicken unless I am facing a zombie dystopian future.

Why can't one keep a chicken for purposes other than eating and then change one's mind when the chicken is fat and ready (or when the zombies strike)?

Semantics mate. Then again, under a desperate enough situation, everything transitions I suppose. Mothers killing their new borns for example.

Kamal-Q In reply to Clicketyclickclick [2015-08-09 14:58:59 +0000 UTC]
I can agree with that. So, is it better to keep an edible pet over an inedible one (in case the zombies strike)?

Clicketyclickclick In reply to Kamal-Q [2015-08-09 15:04:34 +0000 UTC]
Well, unless you are keeping a puffer or lion fish as pet, almost all of them are edible. So are people.

the ape that saw from the bars of his cage
could see why his heart would engage
for he saw not, a triumph of man,
but a reminder of their agony, one more sad page...

Thanks much bro Before I ruin that thread of poetry on your journal - I guess I can practice here
I once saw a monkey
Sitting up high, funky -
another,Β swinging in a tree
A third sat grimacing, lonely.
"Hey man, chill out" beckoned
The first to the second.Β
"No, life is energy, I must fly"
was the swinging monkey's reply.
"Both of you need to S-T-F-U!"Β
Bellowed the last to the two.
"Don't drag us in to your grime"
they sang in and chimed -
[don't know where to take it from here]

I think it knows it's trapped forever.
The focus is quite interesting here, especially as it seems to be more clear with the face, parts of the mouth, etc. but not so much the eyes, or the other features. I think the contrast there is quite fascinating in a way, like what they see will always be half truth, or a shadow of the true thing.
The square format works well. I like how you've made it so that there is a lot of space there in front of the main subject matter, as that seems to centre upon its.. alone-ness? I don't want to say loneliness, but just the fact that they are alone here.
Another sad piece.

It may know that. Did you know they now have anti-depressants for pets? What in a pet's life is there that could get them depressed (besides their owners)
Remember how the apes were stuck behind the glass - it sucked cause I couldn't focus on what I wanted
Hmm...but they weren't alone - all the monkey's had plenty of company, right?

Really? Wow.. o.O
Owners can make or break a pet, man.
That's true. It sucked for both the apes and you.
I think they've built their little cliques, though.

Fluoxetine is the animal Prozac...
I wonder if the apes knew they were being photographed. They are social animals - but they all looked kind of drugged up and depressed. Not meant to be living in cages

Are you saying I drug up animals I've never done such a thing
Pet owners probably drug up their pets because they're too depressed to take them out and play with them I suppose? Β
