Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
As with all critiques, I'll begin by saying it's a wonderful work overall. Very poignant pairing of the subject of death to the season of winter- a classic move, tied together cleanly and without any unnecessary frills. The austere environment again matches the idea of winter and that of our inevitable demise. As for execution, there are a few points which I feel may tighten up the image. Most important of these would be to straighten the image (counter-clockwise) to put either the horizon or the center of the front two headstones flatly along the x-axis. Straightening can add a lot of punch to the composition of the image. Another possibility would be to slightly raise the contrast. This is absolutely optional and up to personal taste, but brighter whites from the snow may go a ways towards heightening the overall impact of the image. As always, keep up the amazing work, and if you apply any of the aforementioned edits, please tag me so I can check them out!

Good to see someone show respect for the dead. You wouldn't believe the jerkasses on some sites.

Yeah, I can imagine that there are a lot of people that fuck with the graves and steal and all kinds of things. It's terrible.

Grave photos give a new light to something that is gone. I don't see it as sad anymore. I may actually make a trip to do more photos like this for this fall. Thanks for the idea.

Thank you. I feel uncomfortable posting something like this without investing time to make it exactly what it should be. I have an early version that was very colorful, but it really was not appropriate at all. I am possilibly going to do a second version some time that does introduce several of the lanterns with color this time. That is what I am thinking about doing.

Probably in a few thousand years, or sooner, Archeologists will excavate graves just like they are excavating Ancient graves today. I know that places in Europe people are only buried for long enough to decay and then they are dug up to make room for more dead people that need to rot. That is what is going on the Hamlet, they dig up his dead friend and he talks to the skull. Probably one day everyone's final resting place will be defiled like King Tut's.

Thank you. Cemetery photography is pretty nice, but it actually feels uneasy to take pictures out there.

Your most welcome. I can imagine the unease but to get the shot you want you have to do it.

I like the starkness of this whole image. I do almost everything in B&W, I cut my teeth before there was color. (little hint of my age).
Nice mixture of shadow and light filtering. Excellent skyline between the winterized (dead) trees.
The image makes an implied statement-
Notice that there are 2 markers that are hearts in the 4th row.
Even in the cold loneliness of winter, from this angle there are 2 signs of love...
What does the motiff imply? Well, that is the beauty of pictures like this, it is up to the observer to decide.
The only criticisim I would mention is the the horizon is not perpendicular to vertical....BUT....there are markers
that have settled and are not perfect vertical (plumb), AND the well demonstrated un-eaven-ness of the snow covered
ground highlighted by shadow.
What does it mean? There is a 'natural-ness' to the pic.
Not everything in life is perfect and symetrical, the top of the tree lines give a convex look to the image.
Very nice work.

I wish I were around for dark room photography. I would be much more appreciative of digital photography and more disciplined. Thank you for such an amazing comment on my photo. How long were you looking at it to get such a detailed comment?

roughly 45 seconds.
I spent 17 years as a technician repairing equipment that duplicates images,
I am now employed in radiology...evaluating (both image quality & image content)
so I over the years I have developed quite a critical eye.
It drives my wife CRAZY when I look at a leaflet or printed material, I evaluate
it as far as reproduction...(image quality-blur, registration, suplurous image) and
then for content and asthetic appeal. Average time is less than 30 seconds, BEFORE
I read what it says.
As I said before very nice work. The beautiful thing is that unlike printed text documents,
pictures leave a large margin for interpretation of what the image is supposed to mean....
.....MOST OF THE TIME.
Best regards.

I like what you said in the description. I often find a lot of inspiration in a cemetery but I've always felt weird about photographing it because I didn't want to run the risk of anyone finding it disrespectful. I was thinking I would try to take an artistic cemetery shot after my little brother's headstone is in!
Anyway, the photo is great! I love the shadows.

Thank you. This one was probably the longest edit I have done to date. I have a colorful version where the lamp shown near the center is really vivid, but I didn't find it appropriate to have a colorful cemetery shot. I actually felt uneasy taking pictures in the cemetery. I don't think anyone really minds though. If you take one, be sure to let me see it.

I have never spent so much time editing a photo as I did with this one hun. I think it took me about three hours of not finding what I wanted to do for the shot. I have another one where I increased the colors, but that wouldn't fit and would (to me at least) be borderline disrespectful.
Thank you for your feedback dear <3, you're simply amazing.
