Description I have been messaged occasionally regarding how I made my bunny suit, so I decided to make a patterning tutorial! Always a fan of hot babes in bunny suits! I hope this makes it a bit easier... if something is unclear let me know so I can make revisions.

Photo on the top left was taken by ~Morataya , and the original can be seen here. [link]
Sketches, graphics, layout, and instructions were made by myself.

Is it possible to make a bunny suit without boning?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to CosmosFox [2012-01-12 16:48:34 +0000 UTC]

It is, but it won't look nearly as good as one with boning. A suit without boning, especially if it's strapless, has the unfortunate tendency to roll down or bunch up. Even plastic boning or Rigilene is better than nothing. Unless you're wearing a corset/girdle underneath.

CosmosFox In reply to Kapalaka [2012-01-19 16:32:37 +0000 UTC]

So it would be alright if I had it without boning IF I had a corset or girdle underneath without any problems? But which would be best (with corset/ boning in bunny suit)? And which layer would the boning be put in at? Thank you so much

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to CosmosFox [2012-01-19 17:44:25 +0000 UTC]

Exactly, as long as you had a corset underneath it would look better than nothing at all. The reason you would want to put boning in the bunny suit anyway, though, is that it would keep it from buckling and rolling down.

I recommend the top layer being the pretty fabric, then two layers of duck cloth or a stiff fabric like rodeo poplin to put the boning in. Instead of making casings, I just sew the two duck cloth layers together and make channels to slip the boning into.

No problem! I appreciate the enthusiasm about bunny suits! I love them!

LunarBunnie [2011-06-22 19:06:33 +0000 UTC]

Did you use a zipper in the back? I'm making one for Mikuru soon ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to LunarBunnie [2011-06-22 19:10:22 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but I made the lining an under-corset layer so the zipper wouldn't have so much stress on it. If you are only using a zipper, I recommend a heavy duty metal zipper. Otherwise, definitely put in an under-corset.

now the zipper is confusing me, could you explain a bit more maybe ? o///o or a doodle how it looks like or a photo or anything o///o ?

LunarBunnie In reply to Kapalaka [2011-06-23 00:39:07 +0000 UTC]

Ah, see ^^ I'm using that thick bridal material and duck cloth for support, along with boning of course! I have a zipper, as well.

Do you have a template, which we could use to make one? Keep up with the great work

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to AlexXe666 [2011-05-24 04:22:44 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, but I do not have any templates... the saran wrap itself is your pattern.
AnimeAngel has a tutorial online, though, if you'd like to calculate a pattern.

The saran wrap pattern is what this tutorial shows you how to make. AnimeAngel's instructions are located here. [link]

Thank you!! Good luck!

MalteseLizzieMcGee In reply to ??? [2011-05-09 09:20:54 +0000 UTC]

I forgot to ask: does this pattern work for stretch or non-stretch fabric, or can it be used for both?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to MalteseLizzieMcGee [2011-05-13 11:13:50 +0000 UTC]

It works better for non-stretch. If you take it in a bit more, though, it could work fine for stretch fabrics.

Thanks so much for this: I was planning on making a costume in this style, but i was resigned to make the corset top and bottom separatley. Saran=ingenious

No problem! Sorry I took a while to respond, I forget to check up on DA sometimes >_< Haha, thank you. Good luck on your corset! If you get stuck on something, I've made a few and might be able to help out.

Thank you so much for that tutorial!!! I'm gonna start drafting the pattern today, can't wait! I got a question, how much time it took you to do the suit?

thank you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to GebGeb [2011-05-03 14:46:25 +0000 UTC]

Good luck! It didn't take me that long, just be sure to make one out of test fabric so you can make sure to fit it properly. I'd say it took about two full days of work to make all the layers and add boning to it and close it off.

KissTheDork In reply to ??? [2011-04-26 02:59:27 +0000 UTC]

The cup part is a little weird for me.
I get that you cut it down the front lines you draw, but do you also draw around the shape of the breast/cup?
Because it became it's own piece... and I'm sure it's just me who is confused >.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to KissTheDork [2011-04-28 13:06:30 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you would draw the lines around the breast cups. And no worries, I wondered that myself when I was trying to figure out how to get it done.

Kitsoru-san In reply to ??? [2010-11-14 18:31:43 +0000 UTC]

This is super helpful. A question about adapting this pattern- this is made for a non-stretch fabric, correct? So can this pattern be adapted for a bustier of sorts by taking the measurements to the hips only (and not the crotch)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kapalaka In reply to Kitsoru-san [2010-11-15 02:12:25 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad it'll come in handy. And yes, you can set the cut-off point higher. It's actually how I made my first corset and this method made it very easy to transition into formal pattern drafting.
