I'm terribly sorry for the horrible pun.For some reason, I was immediately drawn to the Demacian champions in League of Legends. It wasn't entirely unexpected that Jarvan IV quickly became my favorite. One day my friend decided to try out Xin Zhao, and it didn't take long before we were kicking butt together. It was glorious! Of course we had to buy the matching Commando skins. It's incredible how much fun it is to lane together like that!
I felt I had to make a tribute to these two (quite interesting, I must add) champions. I first wanted to make an action shot, however that proved too hard, and I settled for silly poses instead. I'm quite pleased with the outcome though, as I worked very hard for over a month on this.
The background gave me nightmares (it also slowed my computer to a near-halt). I admit I'm both new to and bad at backgrounds. This is a bit of an experiment. I tried several different solutions, before I came up with this. I most definitely learned more about drawing backgrounds from it.
I decided to skip the shades. I prefer to see the characters' eyes.
I also made some changes to Xin's outfit. I rolled the sleeves up and changed the color on a few details.As always I used Photoshop and the old Wacom tablet. I used the original artwork as well as the in game models for reference.

The background is generally working, although I think you need to add detail/refinement to the tree on the left for it to work. Also, the way way the characters are placed, it eliminates a lot of the sense of depth to the background. Dunno if you were going for that or not, just thought I would point it out.
I think my favorite part of this is actually Xin's hands. I think they came out super nice and well rendered. I think if you made the armor look a little scratched up and scruffier, it would read better, but maybe that's just my personal preference poking through.
I do think you need to pay a little more attention to your lighting though. Some areas don't really make sense (Jarvan's gun on his left shoulder (our right) : the pauldron under it is highlighted, with what appears to be light coming from our left, but if that were the case, the gun would have blocked that area out into shadow. It's giving the gun kind of a "floaty" feel.
But overall, I think this is a pretty nice piece, good job.

I think I missed the shoulderpad/gun thing because I generally hate drawing guns (read: suck at it very much) so I admit I got lazy on that part. I see now that it'd make sense to put a shadow there.

In all seriousness, really work. They look like a more gritty real version of the champions. They look like they are ready to have their own badass B-Action Movie together.

Would have been awesome if you had done all of the Commando champs together, but this is just as good.
I like the color palette you used for the background, and what you decided to do with it in the end. It really attracts attention to those two center figures by being simple enough to not over-complicate the piece but detailed enough to add substance to it as a whole.
