What I wanted to point out in the tutorial is that, in a PRE-MADE lineart, it's important to choose a lineart that looks good to increase your chances at selling. But this is only valid when you're looking for a lineart that someone else made. Like it or not, the more 'pretty' the art, the higher the chances of sale.

For people who do their own lineart, this tutorial should be a prompt to better their art, because no one made their masterpiece when they started drawing. Or even a couple of years down the road. It takes patience and practice so don't give up yet.

You edit the description/title and add 'Closed' to it with the owner's name, if you don't want to edit the art itself.

If you want the adoptable to be paid with points, where does the customer pay? Should i make a donation thing in my gallery for them to pay, or what else do i do?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to MeganTheFox15 [2016-04-15 20:08:22 +0000 UTC]

It kind of depends if you want points or want to convert them back to money. In the first case, either a donation pool or the old Give>Points button will be enough, in the second case you need either a Purchase Button or a Commission Widjet.

Here's the first one: Adoptables, Basics for AdoptersSince I've been asked these questions a lot, I thought to write some journals about it. This is from an Adopter's point of view.
What are adoptables?
Adoptables are "characters" that you can purchase for your personal use. They can be animals, humans, objects... Anything and everything can be turned into an adoptable.
What exactly *is* it that I'm adopting?
You're adopting the *character* itself, not the design, not the art, just the character.
Take this adoptable:

Art = The drawing itself = Right remains to the artist
Original Species = The lines = Right remains to the artist, unless the species is for adoption too (Not valid in case of existing species such as wolves, cats, etc....)
Design = Black coat/Golden wings/Pattern on Tail = Right remains to the artist
Character = (Original Species + Design) = This is yours
You are basically adopting the right to use the character as a whole, species + design/pattern. Us

Just Asking How Do People Pay You then You can give it to them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Kellieth [2015-12-29 09:08:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, people pay you by giving you what you ask, so points, art or money (generally through paypal).
The second question is answered here: Adoptables, I sold one, now what?

Hi! I wanted to start selling adoptables, and this was very helpful . One question, how would you attract people to your page to buy them? Low prices? A raffle?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to IItheunusualhumanII [2015-11-23 20:16:21 +0000 UTC]

Part of it is answered here: Adoptables, Basics for Adoptables Artists
However I would advise against very low priced adopts, better a nice mean... With some raffles or draw-to-adopt characters to spice things up. And contests never forget contests.

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Fairydust07 [2015-11-23 20:17:05 +0000 UTC]

This is the Journal about pricing: Adoptables, Pricing
However there's no limit to how many you can put in a batch, it's a persona preference, really.

I've been reading through these!
They are very helpful and thank you so much!!

What do you consider a good number to limit on color? Three perhaps?

My biggest issue with adoptables is creating a pattern that actually looks good... x u x;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Nivisdoodles [2015-09-21 20:17:54 +0000 UTC]

You're very welcome, and there's no need to put a limit. Sometimes you make an adopt in black and white or white and blue and other times you have a seven colour palette but still need the eight colour to make it work. My tip is to do the design on different layers, in black and white. After that, try some colours and see how they fit with each other, maybe try a gradient or two and see if it works better.

Unfortunately the difficulty of adoptables is in the design, in creating something unique and captivating, and that's not really something you can teach, because everyone has their own style. And no, I'm not saying this because I need to 'keep my secrets' or whatever but because I simply wouldn't know how to explain how I choose my colours and do my designs. One day I'm like, love the burgundy with cerulean and maybe let's do some ziggly-zaggly pattern and the next I'm, I can only draw B/W stripes, why Jesus.

so let's just say I'm selling adopts. If someone buys t, should I send them anything, like an unwatermarked/watermarked copy, a totally new drawing of them, a link to a sta.sh file, or do they just get the rights to use the design? [or maybe it just depends on artist/seller?]

Thanks for making this it really helped! ^ w ^

And that one has all the links, so I didn't think of putting them on this one as well.
