Description
So this is the sky protector in her Islander/Mortal form. This is what she looked like when she was alive back 200 years ago.She changes into this form when she is permitted to enter the islands. This form allows her to blend in with the rest of the Islanders. Of course she can only enter the islands when there's serious danger or unbalance. So really, she only uses this form as a last resort.

She looks like old Karla mixed mixed with new Karla. And does the "Mortal" part just refer to it being her past self or something else?..

Nah it's kinda simple. She died and then was chosen to protect the islands so now she does that and makes sure all stars are counted for.

I knew that but I thought the title "Mortal" form meant she could die in that form for good

Well she could still get hurt badly but she can't die.
