Today's a Heckin Birthday for the fantastic Gosh-Heck !!

And what a better way to celebrate a birthday than with CAK-- UH...

... a birb in a cake...

I always miss your birthday and I get super mad at myself when I do. So I tried to start early in January, but yet I feel like I sorta missed it again (the day feels like its over) because this took me way too long to complete.

Originally this cake was a chocolate cake because I had fun texturing the rich brown tones, but before I was done I went, "...wait, birds can't have chocolate... this looks bad!!  ", so I had to change it.
I picked a white cake with strawberry icing because what bird doesn't like strawberries?! Though let me tell you.... you go a little mad after having to hand draw and color all those seeds.

Plus, this was the first time I ever drew a "ruined cake", first time I ever had to render frosting to this degree, and figure out how frosting smeared onto other places looks (I spent a lot of time googling kids messing up birthday cakes ). Lots of firsts for me on this! But at least I had a feather brush to cheat on her wings and finally had an excuse to use a brush that was literally in a "birds brush pack" called "Raven" (which I know Pip is a crow, but damn the brush worked out fabulous for her overall body texture)!

I know this is a simple little silly drawing, and it made me giggle the entire time thinking of Pip crashing into the cake and helping herself to the strawberries.   So I hope this makes you giggle and smile a little too.
