Description
I’m guessing that Leela found the “Go fast” lever…
This drawing had an odd start. Away back in May I had a chance to have a face to face meeting with Tim, who runs the site “The Futurama Madhouse”. www.futurama-madhouse.net/ BTW, if my bribes are current he has been known to occasionally feature my drawings.
One of the subjects that came up was our other hobbies. Much to my surprise Tim runs a fully functional 1/8th scale stream locomotive. And he gives rides on it. Yes, really! He was showing some photos, I whipped out a little dribble:
I really wanted to do a final drawing of the train so Tim sent more detail photos. This one is a fairly accurate go at the drive wheels:
It’s a 4-4-2 arraignment. Which means that there are 4 pilot wheels, four drivers, and two trailing. Remember this is a functional steam engine, which means that all those weird pipes and assorted widgets actually work.

I have been curious what happened to the Steam locomotives in the Futurama universe.

Reminds me of a lovely dark green locomotive I saw last year at the Fancott Miniature Railway I work at.

That's pretty clever. Tim'll have a chuckle at that.
Actually Tims' day isn't as exciting as travel town.

Thanks! Tim was more than happy to send photos of the train. I was told about wheel configuration, how much coal and water he uses in an afternoon, how fast it actually runs, and all kinds of tidbits.

I can tell by looking at your past work that this probably looks more fantastic in person then it even looks here. You're still the wizard with the Copics. Wow...even the trees way out in the background.

Thanks, Glad to hear that. BTW, 76 colors on an 11x17 paper.
I wanted the foreground and background to be blurry to help with the sense of speed. Guess I succeeded. Did you see the Professor, Bender, Amy, and Dr Z?

Guess it depends on definition of "small". Tim's engine and tender is nine feet long and weighs in at 800lbs, which is a pretty big model.
I've already shown it to him, and he's very pleased with it.
