Description Ok, here is the second in what a series about handsewing techniques suitable for late medieval/early renaissance clothing.
This tutorial is on the running stitch, and shows how to do the stitch, it is not designed to show how to use it.

I will not be doing any more individual stitch tutorials for a while (unless requested) as these are the major stitch types I work with and can be used to make a variety of seams and finishes.
From here my tutorials will cover the major and useful seams that use one or a combination of these stitches. Once I have done that I may do some tutorials on the less common stitches and seams.

Also please remember, this is how I make my stitches, if you are a left hander you may work from left to right with the running stitch. Also, many sewers work towards or away from their body.

I hope this tutorial is easy to understand! Please ask if you need any clarification or if there's a part I didn't explain too well.

Great! Personally I use that stitch always when I do hand sewing.

I see You`re interested in reenactment - just like me although I do rather early middle ages - X/XI century.

And while doing some not historical work I use sewing maschine

I am running stitching a skirt I am making at the moment, I still prefer whip stitch but it is faster, even though it is a bit boring, lol.
And yes, very interested in re-enactment, though I go no earlier than 1460. I'm also starting to make some victorian clothing for the first time (for a costme guild, not re-enactment) which I am also finding very fun!
I can't use a sewing machine, I've tried but its not for me, and machines don't agree with me or do what I want them too, so I prefer to handsew on the couch infront of the telly.
