Description A little how-to of my now finished TARDIS journal, inspired by River Song from the show Doctor Who. (It occurs to me that if you didn't know what I was talking about from the word 'TARDIS,' then saying the name of the show wouldn't help you. But I digress.)

Materials: Craft foam, glue, blue tempera paint, a notebook - 4x6 inches or something of the same proportions so that you can use this template: [link] for the raised bits on the cover.

Tools: craft knives (preferably as sharp as you can get them--I discovered while working on this that dull craft knives really don't like paper and it made cutting with the template very hard), paint brushes (I used sponge brushes and a very small brush for the lower spaces, but pretty much any type will work).

Some notes:

I glued a printout of the template onto the notebook (so I'd know where to glue the pieces) and onto the foam (lightly) in order to cut out the raised design. This works fine, but I'm sure there's a better way to do it, so, y'know, experiment.

Also, the blue paint is actually quite a bit darker than is displayed in the photos. It's a different color than the foam, which is hard to see.

Also, I used a spray-on finish after the paint had dried, which is probably not necessary but will hopefully make it more durable.

The idea for how to make this was inspired by [link] and the materials list in that description.

This is just the way I made the notebook, and isn't meant to be taken as a step-by-step how-to guide, exactly. More like a suggestion, because I know there's probably a better way to make this but I thought I'd share my process anyway.

Ive been trying to figure out how to make this for awhile and I've looked at a lot of ways of how to. But I think this will be the easiest. The only thing I'm not sure about is the foam. Also how much do the materials cost.

I'm using acrylic paint... Would that be ok to use?

Just posted it! I made mine out of fabric, so it's different than this.

Nice! I actually really like it done with fabric, because it looks more worn, and more like River's does in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Mine's very new looking, although I'll probably naturally end up with a 'worn' effect through actual use. C:

Thanks! The diary starts pristine anyway. I love natural wear.
