WHAT IS THIS AN UPLOAD WHAT.I'll update something soon, but for now it's =Pspynett 's birthday and she's very elderly now. :3 Go and give her love if you haven't!
Naturally, because I always draw serious things silly, I must draw silly things seriously. This is fanart for her wonderful fantasy parody comic, Sir Perigold (in which a lovestruck knight quests near and far and gets snarked at by his golden dragon bud, Auriel, only with far more genius than that). You must read it. Now. I compelllllll you.
I am heinously happy with how this turned out, for the most part. My fire muse left me for a full hour while I tried technique after technique and eventually went for quite a painterly look. And the whole thing was lit to the Sunshine (2007) OST, which is grandiose and horrible and tragic and golden, and then cheered up with the entire Curse of Monkey Island OST. xD
Perigold (the knight) is of course BLOODY TINY here, so I shall be uploading a detail. It was gonna be A4, and then I thought bugger it, and doubled the size, which naturally made it not A3 but A2 at 300dpi. X____x It's 7000px+ on the long side. SO. I hope you like it, man c: Sorry they're both a bit serious. xDDD And I hope I got them at least mostly physically looking like themselves!

I'm gonna be repeating Robin's praise here, but holy balls, the detail in Auriel's anatomy is incredible! Such wonderful structure, and beautifully defined by that gorgeous shading! That lighting is absolutely stunning! 
I've seen your detail piece, and Perigold looks fantastic too (you really can't tell here, unfortunately)! Awesome armour detail, beautiful sheen. I don't think his chin is big or pointy enough, though.

Anyway, months later, thank you very much for this comment xD I really do appreciate it, and I'm really glad you like it too. I think Auriel was mostly done to the tune of big cat musculature, because it seemed appropriate, so you're entirely welcome to go down that route too. :3
Really glad you liked the detail too - it wasn't until afterwards that I realised how little of Perigold you could actually see xDD Yeah, the chin. That ol' thing. I guess I compromised - a stylised big chin would look weeeird in my style, so I sort of went for just a little emphasised. I could probably have done more though. ^^' The armour is totally blagged, but I like how it came out too ♥ For the reins, I blame pony riding. xD Wandering around holding two lengths of leather for an hour or so a week for years gives you a feel for how the buggers fall.

KAT THIS IS SO EPIC AND AMAZING. 
So this is that thing you were working on which 'got out of hand'. x) Christ, dude, insane stuff - the liiiighting. <3 There's so much depth to it, I love the detail of the bits of reddish shading and the subsurface scattering on the wings. <3 And the slight glow on the underside of his body and arms. It's golden but in such an interesting way, it's got both subtelty and contrast, especially with the mountains all dusky and hazy. I can stare at Auriel's muscle structure all day. o__o; He looks completely tangible. Reeeeally nice job of smoothing out the anatomy areas I tend to fuzz over with stylisation; he looks like a living creature and one which can FUCK YOU UP. Pose and angle is really cool as well, the slight foreshortening works so nicely, and there's a tonne of both action and impact in there. LOVE IT. 
Painterly style for the fire is lovely, there's loads of crackly texture in there, it's got loads of motion. <3 Also amused by how well you made Perigold's bizarre face work in your style. xDDD And the shinies on his armour and his expression and the lighting on his hair and SQUEEEEEEEE. <3333

Yep, busted. xD The one that got out of hand...again. I can't help it if you make absurdly awesome characters that I have to go to town on. I am so glad you like those parts of it, because you pretty much described exactly what I was going for and hoping for. I decided to actually put my tentative experiments in faking SSS to FIERY use, so thank god that came out. x3 Also glad you like Auriel in this style! I know you wanted to see what I'd do with him and Perigold's chin, so it's good to know they're not wildly off-model or anything xDDDD And I think you can blame...big cat anatomy with a tiny side order of pony for his muscles c:
And the fire! Oh god thank god you like it. That bloody fire muse left me hanging, it did. xD I was going to do my usual crackly thing, but it's best for non-blasting-out-of-a-dragon's-mouth-at-many-mph fire, so it got redone about a bajillion times. xD
