I can relate, sometimes when I ask for something that relates to drawing my parents don't know why I want it.

The thing of it is people like that can understand if you frame what you are doing right.Β People like that don't get that there is real money in drawing and see it as something to relax.Β Much like reading.Β If you make them realize that you are working = making money/honing you skills to make money.Β then they can kinda understand.

My thing is kinda similar. My parents are all like
"Oh, you SAY you're an artist but I NEVER see you draw."
Yeah well I don't draw around my parents because they don't like my art at all. To them it's "inappropriate" and "unbecoming of me." Sure, if you go to my page you won't see anything too bad but that's because I don't post the stuff in, like, my sketchbook. I draw someone smoking or drinking or saying swear words and apparently now it's no longer art. It's inappropriate. Just because I'm a young'un.
Like holy fuck one time they made me put my drawings through the shredder just because they had swears. Like fuckin' hell man. Thanks for making me put my hard work through the fucking shredder.And another time they took my sketchbook and supplies because I drew some NSFW stuff. So it's no wonder I decide to draw in private and NOT TELL THEM AT ALL ABOUT IT!! Like, you can't just suppress someone's creativity like that.
But who cares about my life story. Cool art man. Β

I know how you feel. Try getting your college degree online at a prestigious school. Because you are not at a "real" collage, your degree and work is considered nothing, like anyone can just go and print off college degrees online

This, and even if I get commissions, the family seems to ignore that.
A lot of people in my family are like that, but I also have family who've
supported me through thick and thin because they always wanted to become artists
themselves, but were never given the chance to have the support they are giving me.
Even though, it always feels awful when someone, especially family, says this.
