I feel you, my parents think that if you do something creative which involves little physical effort such as drawing and writting but it needs plenty of intelectual effort then it means that you do nothing at all. For real, parents?!
Drawing and writting consumes our brain energy, time and sometimes patience. Just because we don't fill buckets of sweat like working in a garden doesn't mean that those activities are a waste of time. Think about those people whom write newspapers for example (if your parents still read those nowadays like mine). Β

Yes, I think is an universal parent's thought... that if you're drawing you're doing nothing... It's even worse when you're in the path of trying to win some money with it but you haven't yet... But I don't care what people thinks anymore... I've been stuck for years following the path that other people wanted me to follow because I didn't want to disappoint them and that didn't make me happier... At the end I was suffering so much because I couldn't do what I wanted (drawing)... I was so lost... Β But thanks to my boyfriend, I found the courage to do what I wanted to do and not what others wanted me to do.. I'm so happy right nowΒ ... I wish I have taken this decision before... I have wasted so much time...Β

tried to once ask his opinion about a drawing I had been working on and I was very proud of it, u know, a situation when a child (well, I was 16 back then) shows a thing they know they've done well to their parents just to hear praises and nice things. Simply in order to make you happy for a job well done.
To me, dad's opinion was always the highest.
... he didn't even look at the drawing, just told me to do something more useful like study more, which was a great shock to me since my grades weren't that bad and I was already working very hard with school (so hard in fact that it caused some mental problems which my family never noticed haha).
Do I need to say after that I never showed my drawings to ANYONE in real life willingly (usually mom made me to show my schoolworks to our relatives but I would just throw the damn thing to them and hurry away back to my room).
I always knew that dad didn't really appreciate me drawing, had it as a waste of time and a reason for a failed exam over personal problems and stress, but that one particular case made it all official and very personal.
Something I will not forget.

Hay, mostly all of my friends work on the pencil art. It's not the physical-type of work, but the same in difficulty. Good luck!

This...hurts...actually.
Its so Relatable. That it hurts.
Our parents only want us to secure our future...
but why does it feel like doing what we want for our future is a mistake?
Its killing me on the inside when I draw and I keep hearing from my dad "How will you make it in the future by drawing?"
...I don't know.
Nowadays, its gotten so bad that i've stopped drawing.
I don't want to stop drawing...but it seems like in order to survive in society and make a living...
You have to throw away your soul...
