Neat. I've only ever encountered the reverse scenario, though. I've tried to use that logic, but people keep saying that "with girls it's different", and won't explain why, other than the fact there aren't any male parts.
It's all personal preference really.

it makes no sense to hate yuri but like yaoiΒ
it's hypocritical and homophobic, like those pervs that get off to lesbians but hate gay guys.Β

LazyOrangeGirl In reply to peaachi [2017-12-05 20:47:28 +0000 UTC]
Most females like yaoi because it involves men, someone their sexually attracted to. That's why they usually don't like Yuri, because it involves women, someone their not sexually attracted to.
You have to remember that yaoi and yuri are actually pornography, and obviously, people will watch/read porn based on sexual preference. It has nothing to do with hypocrisy, and it's definitely not homophobia.
Let me give you an example to reinforce my point: a gay man would watch gay porn, because of his sexuality (sexual preference), not because he hates straight people.

peaachi In reply to LazyOrangeGirl [2017-12-05 23:18:45 +0000 UTC]
you completely misunderstood my comment and reiterated my point, way to go.
i'm talking about people that call yuri "disgusting" like his sister did and bash it in a homophobic manner despite liking yaoi.
i'm not talking about sexual preferences.Β

LazyOrangeGirl In reply to peaachi [2017-12-05 23:26:01 +0000 UTC]
OK, thanks. I'm glad you cleared that up, cause I honestly wasn't sure what you meant. I just posted the comment because I thought you used the word "homophobic" wrongly.

Vibrantes In reply to LazyOrangeGirl [2017-12-05 22:50:07 +0000 UTC]
I think what he/she means is not actually just "disliking" but actually showing hate towards it and talking like one was right but the other was wrong. Simply not liking something and finding it wrong are different things, you dont need to bash Yuri just because you like Yaoi... that's the thing.

Just read over his/her comment with your words in mind, and now that I think of it, that makes sense. (Though I still want the person to come and clarify their statement, that would be nice).

Oberstenfeldherr In reply to peaachi [2017-12-05 04:08:06 +0000 UTC]
pretty sure that's not "homophobic", it's called "not findingΒ X genderΒ sexually attractive". neither is it "hypocritical", because the statement you put forth was one of preferences, and what you are therefore critiquing is one's sense of personal appeal, as though one ought to findΒ X appealing if they also findΒ Y appealing.
... and I went out of my way to post this becauseΒ I perceived anΒ incorrect use of the wordΒ "homophobic", which is just... words mean things. Please use them correctly.

peaachi In reply to Oberstenfeldherr [2017-12-05 23:19:49 +0000 UTC]
again, not what i said. i'm talking about people that are against one gender being gay but support the other.Β i'm not talking about people's preferences.Β

Oberstenfeldherr In reply to peaachi [2017-12-15 04:54:43 +0000 UTC]
please reconcile to yourself "it makes no sense to hate yuri but like yaoi" and "like those pervs that get off to lesbians but hate gay guys" from your original comment and "i'm not talking about people's preferences" from your reply.
regardless of what you intended to convey, what you actually wrote was that it was hypocritical (and somehow homophobic) to hate yuri but like yaoi -- moral judgments which you have passed on decidedly preferential verbs.
my sole point was that your choice of wording rendered the use of the word "hypocritical" improper in that setting, unless you intentionally passed moral judgment on what you blatantly described as preferential bias (which you have now clarified was not the case, so 'improper' it is). now, the reason i feel the intense, burning desire to correct a mere semantics error in a perfect stranger's casual internet post is because words mean things, and they convey information. use them wrong, and you convey the wrong information, and no meaningful discourse can follow.

It's not the same, it's okay if you don't like yuri if you don't hate lesbians.
For example I don't usually like yuri (I think valkyrie drive mermaid was disgusting) but that doesn't mean I go insulting random lesbians in the street, in fact, I'm bi XD. So, no, you're not a homophobe.

academyahri In reply to bluepopcakes [2017-12-05 00:11:45 +0000 UTC]
i don't think that's what they meant, i'm pretty sure they were talking about how many straight guys sexualize the idea of lesbians fucking around and stuff but think gay shit between guys is disgusting.

bluepopcakes In reply to academyahri [2017-12-05 12:19:40 +0000 UTC]
They were comparing the fact of not liking yuri to hateing gays. But yet I don't english very well, it's not even my second lenguage.

sorry, i'll make it easier to understand
"it makes no sense to hate yuri but like yaoi"
i don't agree with this, i do not enjoy yaoi because i like girls. but there is nothing wrong with disliking fictional sex. it's wrong when you dislike love/the idea of two of the same sex loving eachother. what they mean is: it is about disliking it for their sexualities and gender. it has nothing to do with the fact that it is fictional, because it's about the same idea of a certain type of homophobia. if you are a guy who loves lesbians but hates gay men: you are homophobic. if you are a woman who hates lesbians but love gay men: you are homophobic.
"it's hypocritical and homophobic, like those pervs that get off to lesbians but hate gay guys."
because it is hypocritical to find lesbians sexy but gay guys gross, for example: when straight girls find gay love enjoyable but find lesbian love to be disgusting.
or when straight guys masturbate to lesbians but hate gay men. they are not comparing fiction to reality. they are talking about homophobia. you should be neutral and treat them like heterosexuality: normal.
i am not english either.

bluepopcakes In reply to academyahri [2017-12-05 13:15:54 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I understood that, but what I ment was that finding gross gay sex does not make you a homophobe, what makes you a homophobe is thinking being gay is bad. For example my friends don't like yuri but they don't insult or hate me for my sexual preferences, and then is my aunt, she hates gay people and basicaly she tolds them to go to hell and things like that. Finding a sexual practice disgusting doesn't make you a homophobic person, in fact there's a lot of gay people that find hetero hentai gross, but they respect heteros.
In conclusion, it's not about finding it atractive or not, it's about respect

Isn't Bara a type of yaoi? Just with more heavily masculine guys?
π: 0 β©: 1
LiveLongButLOL In reply to Estelle-Verteller [2017-12-07 21:40:54 +0000 UTC]
Not really, Bara is made by men and for men, yaoi is mostly made by women for women.
Bara is considered a subgenre ofΒ seijinΒ (men's erotica) for gay males and resembles comics for men (seinen manga)Β rather than ones for female readers (shojo/josei manga)

I noticed in yaoi, the relationships are really unhealthy...

Estelle-Verteller In reply to Intervengo [2017-12-05 02:29:57 +0000 UTC]
It depends on which yaoi you're reading. All romance/sex genres have an abundance of stories with unhealthy relationships. Although, I agree it does seem like Yaoi has a bit more than others, but I don't know the statistics.

NOONMOONTEA In reply to Intervengo [2017-12-04 18:59:34 +0000 UTC]
Really, I think it's the opposite. I think the relationships in yuri are just sex sex sex and in yaoi, they're all overly dramatic and effeminate so everything is very romantic (but there's still plenty of sex).

Yeshuash In reply to Intervengo [2017-12-04 18:54:06 +0000 UTC]
Most yuri is basically shojo-ai with sex scenes while yaoi is straight up gay porn with little t o no plot.
