My biggest problem with the story is this.
Raiden at the start of the game sends a message to past Raiden to tell him how to stop the apocalypse but due to Shao-Kahn getting ready to kill him he can't really give anything but a vague message. Fair enough, I can accept that. Okay, so if you have this power...WHY DON'T YOU USE IT AGAIN AFTER KAHN IS KILLED!? You can't introduce a power like that and then ignore it, that is a HUGE plot hole. Like, you could have easily explained it away too. The spell or power comes at a price, one can not simply change the past so by enacting this spell, you risk altering the past, which could make it better or worse and Raiden is aware of this and sees just how badly this spell fucked up time so he realizes he can't just abuse the spell and do it again.
But no, there is literally no reason why he didn't just fix everything.

I like how you made a comparation between MK2 and MK9 in terms of characterization. If you ask me, I don't like the MK9 much either, They ruined so many characterizations, like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kitana and even Mileena.

Keep I mind that Scorpion wasn't aware that it was Quan Chi and not Sub-Zero who killed his clan at the time Mortal Kombat 9 took place seeing as Raiden went back in time, also keep in mind that Quan Chi deliberately placed visions in Scorpions mind that clearly shows Sub-Zero slaughtering his family.
And besides, it did open up to Mortal Kombat X which was even better than Mortal Kombat 9 in my opinion.

True, but in the original time line, that wasn't reveled until MK 4. Scorpion had this mindset in MK2 until Quan Chi tricked him again.

Its not THAT bad. Also, the story mode is by FAR the best story mode in a fighting game in my opinion.
And I frankly don't see much of a difference with the new Scorpion if you ask me.

It's practically an alternative time line, after the Raiden of the First Universe contacts the Second one. And the beginning of the Second Universe is the same as the First one.

In terms of gameplay, MK9 was completely superior to everything else in terms of gameplay to everything that isn't MK2. In terms of story?, not so much. I'm glad MK9 got the foul taste of the 3D games, though.

I hated the storyline for MK9 too. I don't know why everyone liked the whole timeline reboot, I thought it was dumb. I really wish they didn't kill off the kombatants in the beginning and just continued from the Armageddon timeline with Taven being victorious, like he was meant to be in Konquest.

I assume it was because he was pissed off at himself for listening to Quan Chi instead of taking up on Raidan's offer OR he was specially enraged because Quan Chi actually SHOWED 'Sub-Zero' killing his wife and child. Β

well the idea with Raiden giving his past self a vision is nice but some things just fucked up and weren't right...
I mean..just what the hell, Sindel going and killing like what..10 ppl or something? and Raiden frying Liu Kang at the end by mistake? I mean...how the fuck do u fry someone by mistake?! xD
but ofc: everything, that can go wrong, will go wrong - that's the rule, pfft
I think I can give more examples but yea, there were a lot of things I didn't like about the MK9 story..though at least they came up with the explanation about Jax's arms
sooo I'm looking forward to seeing MK X and how the story will develop with all that 20-30 years gap thing

I am looking forward to MK X as well, but I just hate that fact that things like that go wrong. I have been writing a story for MK, but it would fix the stuff that happened in MK9. For example, Raiden finds a way to trick Quan Chi into putting the souls back in the body of the dead kombatants. Quan Chi tries then to go to a Mirror Universe to get the alternate Dragon King's army. I think it is pretty cool. I never cared for the MK9 story mode either, to be honest. Really disappointed with how most of the characterizations were handled.
What annoys me was how they fracked up the Younger Sub-Zero's story _along_ with Scorpion's in MK9. They literally gave Younger SZ the same revenge-based story as Scorpion, which was not the reasoning for SZ to attend Kahn's tourney in MK2. So when Scorpion's MK9 story = revenge and Kuai Liang's MK9 story = revenge... It's like a never-ending circle of stupid/pointless hatred.
I guess I liked how in MK2, Sub's reasons for showing up at Shao Kahn's tourney were professional, the Lin Kuei demanded he take up his dead brother's role and continue the mission of asassinating Tsung. While in MK9, he's there for personal reasons, but it's a rip-off on Scorpion's story because he's there to take revenge on someone for killing his family - so two characters with the same stories isn't as interesting, personally.

Scorpion was VERY flat in it,I would say Raiden had the most personality.
You could see him get more and more desperate as it went on,not kissing his ass or anything but at least he isn't completely mindless.

I thought they turned Raiden into a bumbling, desperate idiot. Β The only character in that game I was really happy with was Liu Kang, who actually seemed to gain a personality, while other characters lost theirs.

I will admit,they made Raiden a little stupid.
I don't know if I agree with Liu Kang or not,although I feel like he was too attatched to Kitana.
Yet again,as it goes on and Raiden begins to get even more desperate,Liu Kang loses his trust in him.
While the story mode was crap when it came to the character execution,there were some relatively funny moments in it.
