NOT a tutorial. Not pro enough for that lol. More like a collage of pics I took while dyeing. Couldn't find many photos of dyeing processes before I tried to do it myself, so hope this might be useful for someone else haha~
Need to re-dye it before next Hakuouki shoot anyway, so might take more pics for a tut then? Idk, see if there's any interest first.

1. My materials:
-BIG disposable pan
-cos part ready for dyeing
-plastic water bottle (x2)
-DYLON Quilter's Cold Water Fabric Dye (in 26 Ultra Violet)
-plastic gloves (later switched to dishwashing gloves)
-laptop (for reference hee)

2+3. Just followed the instructions in the box. Dissolved fixer and dye in separate bottles by much shaking lol.

4. Wet the fabric to get it ready for dyeing.

5. Mixed in the fixer and a little dye.

6. Starting to dye yay~ Used safety pins to mark where I wanted the gradient transitions. Gradually mixing in more dye.

7. Getting that gradient look yeah! Pretty much all the dye is mixed in by now heh~ Rinsed it several times between dips to make sure colour would be truer to the actual result.

AAAND THIS IS WHERE MY BRAIN WENT BYE-BYE. SCREWED UP OTL.
See, I dyed this the night before the shoot (=eaaarly morning of the shoot ahaha orz). The gradient was the shade seen in #7. Desired colour yay! So then I lay it out to dry on a plastic sheet.
It was still wet when I was getting ready to leave so I... t-tossed it in the dryer machine. *BRICK'D*
"After dyeing, DO NOT DRY IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT OR HEAT. Discolouration may occur."
^CLEARLY I HAVE SELECTIVE READING IN THE EARLY AM'S OF THE MORNING *SOB*.
My lovely indigo shadeee...faded to a light wimpy pink-violet FFFFFF.

Random side notes:
-used chopsticks to mix dye & move fabric around at first, but found it easier just to use my hands. Possible w/ cold water dye, do not suggest for hot water ack.
-didn't want to dye our dishgloves, but realized that despite being dye, it doesn't dye anything other than fabric. Cool. could just be cold water type tho idk.
-I like cold dye. Me = clumsy. Imagine all the things that could go wrong w/ boiling water orz...
-need lots of plastic sheets in dyeing area. LOTS.
-arms get tired fasttt. Having a friend or a hanging rack ready would be nice. OR you could see this as muscle training LOL. 8DD;;
**You should definitely do a swatch test of your fabric w/ the dye first. Else you risk ruining your cos. I figured: "Ehhh cotton-lycra mix. Should be fine. 8DDbb"
...Don't follow my example lol.
