Description
First tutorial! Wow, really not used to writing these things! They are a lot more time-consuming than I thought...(take pictures, edit said pictures, write out instructions, put it all together and make it look somewhat decent) Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated!Anyway, this is for 's Recycled paper tutorial contest. I love recycling paper and creating new things from what others might consider garbage, so when I saw "Recycled Paper" I was really excited. But then I saw "tutorial" and got a little worried. I have another super-long tutorial partially done, but am not sure if I can get it to work...
Well, this is one of the main ways I color paper to use for other projects. I have several other ways, but this is probably the simplest. I even put a bonus of how to use the paper afterwards!
Here are the different sizes of stars as noted in the example section:

small

Ooh, fun! I need more ideas like I need a hole in the head, but hey. I have so much scrap paper lying around from my button-printing business. This will come in handy!

If you check out Tutorial Gallery, there are various tutorials on how to make them...I'm horrible at explaining them unless I actually show someone how to make them in person.
Hope that helps!

My mom told me about a painting technique for making a speckle effect. When you lay down a lot of watery pigment on paper, you sprinkle salt on it. The salt will absorb the pigment where it sits, and when it dries, just brush the salt off. Speckley!
I want to try that too

I've done that too! It works pretty well (except too wet=melting salt which doesn't work as well) with combined with this technique...I remembered doing it in elementary school so I tried it with this and it definitely creates a cool effect! I highly recommend experimenting with it!

Great way to re-purpose paper!
but wouldn't the ink on some papers bleed to the other side ?

Thanks!
Depending on the type of printer the ink might bleed through. Inkjet printers print a lot better now and don't bleed much if at all, older models still bleed, however those work great for darker colors and even when the ink bleed through, the lettering can add some interesting texture. Laser printer prints shouldn't bleed through, and neither should copies (I think).

Hmm I know for sure my ink printer sucks when it comes to bleeding.
I'll just try it anyways and see how it goes

strryeyedreamr27 In reply to littlemiss83 [2010-08-15 18:32:31 +0000 UTC]
ok. Well, if you try this with color prints, then I would suggest using colors that are similar to the print so that if the ink does bleed the colors will bleed together in a more complimentary way (hopefully).

I usually use it on plain copy/printer paper, but I've also used it on notebook paper, graph paper, and some other A4 and A5 sized paper and even a similar technique on card stock. I think that as long as the paper is somewhat porous, and not coated (like photo paper) it should work fairly well.
I hope this helps and makes sense!
