Description
The first King of the Pridelands, Mwana, with his younger half-brother and first leader of the lion guard, Askari.

In their original pride, Mwana's mother Kifalme had fallen in love with the pride shaman's son and became pregnant with his cub, even though she was already betrothed to a lion from another pride. Kifalme's father killed her beloved, and she begged him to let her keep her son. He agreed, only if she would marry her intended and disown Mwana as her son. She agreed.

And so Askari was born. He and Mwana got along well. Mwana knew they were half-brothers, as his mother couldn't bare to not know him and have him as her son. One day, Mwana accidentally called his mother's mate 'dad' and his grandfather grew very angry with him. His mother's mate had not known that Mwana was her son, and her father was afraid he would reject her. In his anger, Kifalme's father told the young cub how his real father had died and how he wished he had killed Mwana as well.

Mwana was devastated, and ran far away. The young Askari heard the confrontation and innocently followed his older brother.
