Description

This is one of a few original characters that I've really enjoyed creating during character design class, I don't really have a name for her and i'm open to some suggestions and I've also been thinking of starting to post some of my original art from class.

I really adore her! I personally would love to see more of your original art.

Aw thanks Ziva, it's nice being a fan artist but I'm at the point now where I think I'm ready to try and branch out a little from fan art and I want to start by making more original pieces

Yeah! That is very great for your creative process and imagination. I've been struggling to do that too. I used to have so many stories and OCs before i got pulled into tmnt. it's time to start getting back to that. and i actually think writing that fanfic helped me a bit since it's 99% alien OCs and my own settings which i am now totally exploring beyond the fic.
I used to be discouraged about giving out my own content because original art gets a lot less attention online. but that's reasonable, and I now feel comfortable to show some stuff every now and then. It's great that you are too. I love seeing what other artists do for themselves and at school.

That's such a great thing to hear ZivaΒ , I'm happy to hear how your fanfic has helped

you with boosting your creative freedom and is making you feel more comfortable about

your art. When I first started making art, all I wanted to be was a famous fan artist

that gets millions of favorites because that's what I thought made a great artist, but

over time I eventually grew out of that because I started to doubt my abilities and

would sometimes fall into long and depressing art blocks.

I still love making fan art but since I started taking art classes at my college, I've learned

that I really love designing characters, making storyboards, and creating animations and

that Its a career field that i'm really looking forward to pursuing.

yes! being primarly a fan artist definitely doesn't sound satisfying after a while when you're thinking of becoming a profesional. i'm glad we both agree on that.

Yeah very few jobs hire fan artists in the animation industry because they need artists who can provide original ideas and a fresh perspective on story telling and there's very few originality that can be found in fan art not to mention creating original stories and characters fills artists like me with a greater sense of pride that fan art doesn't always provide.

I agree with everything you said.
I was at a con this weekend and I was talking with Valentina Remenar who had her own stand. And she even said that she stopped drawing fanart because the gaming company with the game that she was making fanart for used her picture for advertisement and cropped out her signature. She should have earned lots of money for something like that but they refused to even credit her.

aw man, plagiarism in the art community is such an awful thing to happen

to us as artists since we make fan art to show appreciation for our favorite

shows and stories, and when people take our art and claim it as their own, it feels like their

spitting on our faces which is why I want to try and focus on making original pieces

as many art thieves are less likely to take credit for original work.

that's very true! there's pros and cons to every type of art

Of course, just as there's pros and cons with other hobbies

or professions, but I like to focus on how the pros in making

incredible artwork and meeting and making friends with equally

incredible artistic people like you far outweighs the cons that

comes with being an artistΒ
