To any ProjectCommenters who stumble on this, would you mind giving a quick comment/thought/musing on why people tend to like this (constructive praise)? I'm trying to figure out why it's so much more popular than my other drawings, and I'd appreciate some outside thoughts on the matter!---
Actually uploaded on Friday this time!
I can't believe it took me this long to do Aragorn fanart, given he's my favorite character from my favorite movie.
In retrospect, would probably have been easier to do this white on black >_>

Tools: Compressed charcoal and charcoal pencil, in my sketchbook (I regret not doing this on actual drawing paper >_<)

This piece is just really eye-catching with the strong contrast, Aragorn's mysterious air, the fact that you can actually tell it's Aragorn without seeing the rest of his face, meaning you captured his likeness incredibly, and being hand-done simply makes it that much more impressive. I really like it! It's so well-composed and... just really awesome

I think this is popular because of how this is done: Shading the entire paper in and erasing the highlights out. Β I did this before to make an image of a skull and I wound up murdering my triceps. Β It's rather unusual to see a huge emphasis on highlights and that is great!
Also, it's fanart. Β An unspoken rule of dA is that all fanart will yield more views, favs, and comments than original works.

Well, I was comparing it to my other fanart and even then it blew everything away 
I didn't shade in the entire paper, just most of it...but halfway through I was definitely wondering if I should have just gone with white charcoal on black paper instead, haha! I empathize with your tricepsΒ Β
