Description
Ivan from the Golden Sun games, Karis from Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, and Lucca from Chrono Trigger, all in the style of the webcomic Order of the Stick. Made in Inkscape. On August 18, a new Dark Dawn trailer was released. In it, there is a scene involving Tyrell flying with mechanical wings. It wasn't long before some part of my brain decided Lucca might have made those wings, although since they were in a Golden Sun game she probably didn't do it on her own. Ivan seems the most likely person for designing and making mechanical wings, so he's involved.
My idea is that this takes place about twenty years after Lost Age (ten years before Dark Dawn), perhaps somewhere in Contigo. Little Karis is naturally quite curious about what her father/uncle/parents' friend is up to with this stranger, so she's coerced Matthew and perhaps Tyrell into boosting her up so she can see through the window.
I had no idea what to do with Ivan's hair. Presumably he'd have done something to change it in the intervening time, but... Lucca's face is all kinds of messed up; apparently that head-angle is quite hard to do in OOTS-style.

Oh, there's a new trailer?
...
Nice. The whole face angle thing is a pain, but it was still nice to see Lucca. Very cool.

Ah yes, I spotted that trailer yesterday. My first thought was "What the hell!?", but now I think that proto-tech in the GS universe could be... interesting, to say the least
I'll have to disagree with your choice of inventor, though. After all, what about Kraden or the people in Loho?

Mmm... perhaps. Kraden's already pretty old, though, and he strikes me primarily as a research scholar. He might be able to tell you about the Wings of Anemos, but I wouldn't expect him to be able to design a personal set. Assuming, of course, that he's still around in twenty years.
As for the Lali-hos Lohos, they're classic dwarves. When they found a cannon, their reaction was not "how does this work", but rather "how can I use this to get to more mineral wealth". They don't strike me as designers or tinkerers at all.

Meh, you never know, there's always one... Still, I see what you're saying
