Those crazy humans! Always naming their Science and Exploration vessels after the worst parts of the human experience... "Infinity", "Enterprise", "Terror"! The design is quite nice, I like all the forward-thrusting bits... very forceful and masculine. The uniformity of color works well with the shine, keeps in unified. That giant torus at the base is a good unifying point, and the larger 'ships prow' in the central region is a good focal point... keeps the eyes moving back and forth.

thanks
What happened to the HMS Terror remains a mystery, mabye she and her crew destroyed because of what they discovered? I imagine that people of the 22nd century however are not superstitious or perhaps the history of the Terror has distorted into some kind of fantastic mythical legend.
I have had this design in my head for quite some time, repeatedly failing to realize it through kitbashing.
Zbrush's near unlimited supply of industrial style parts and impressive scalability has let me come much closer to it, I could have carried on greebling forever but stopped myself because of diminishing returns.
The main idea around the ship design is that it is primarily a frontal assault vessel with impressive speed and fire power but minimal lateral and rear defenses, often deployed in large groups in guerrilla warfare.

It's a lovely sculpture, and 'kitbashing' can be tons of fun, especially if your kits contain enough parts to let you really play around. The design itself if very cool, the parts used and material are sweet, and the name is great. I suppose in the future, if enough history has been lost you might very well get spaceships named "Tiny Teens Monster Cocks III" or "Non-Consensual Yiff" just because they are old phrases that come up fairly regularly in the ancient data... but nobody has any real idea what they meant back in the earliest days of spaceflight and information processing! In that case, I'd also expect to see a few ships named "One Weird Trick" and "You'll Be Shocked By Number Eleven".
I don't think I've ever hit the point of 'diminishing returns' on Greeble... it's like Jello that way... "there's always room for G-r-double E-b-l-e" That's why I love Mandelbulb 3D... there's always more greeble where that came from!
I like the design philosophy shown by the Terror... all firepower all the time, push though, hit hard, win or die, but never give up, never surrender (or something like that).

Cool design, the kitbash style reminds me of the old practical models in in scifi. Interesting use for the IMM brush, if'n i'm guessing correctly.
Seeing as you've submitted this to the Bright Future group, is there a specific role or place in a story that you picture this filling?

thanks, yes my background and training is primarily in traditional art
you are correct about the IMM brushes mostly spaceship and gun parts, the symmetry that Zbrush provides and almost unlimited supplies of materials really help with this type of design.
The background of the HMS Terror II is that it is a salvaged heavy destroyer rescued from recycle yards and refitted for deep space exploration as a science vessel, I haven't really thought of a specific role or place in a story yet.

I'll bite.
Why name a science and exploration-type vessel, Terror II?

The HMS Terror II was originally a heavy destroyer in the regression wars and was scheduled to be dismantled and salvaged to help rebuild the colonies.
It was instead sold and refitted for hazardous deep space exploration.

Ahhhh.
Re-purposing without changing the nomenclature.
Hokai.

Also, wasn't one of the Arctic exploration wrecks they found off Canada recently of a ship called HMS Terror? Could be a call-back to that too.
