That's actually really cool and creepy design. I like it. While organic ships could probably not compete with mechanical ones, they still have their uses...

I like the design... most 'spacebattleships' are shaped more-or-less like a gun. So I suppose it's only fair that 'organicspaceships' are shaped more-or-less like a dragon's head. Lovely colors and really fun placement of the 'greeble'. Do you have this in a larger resolution?

thanks this is the highest resolution rendered.
honestly it started out as a sleek cruiser type design based on Zbrush zspheres, after experimenting with surface textures changed it to semi-organic when it began to resemble something alive especially with the horns and eyes. I like the idea of cooperative technological augmentation with alien species, a reversible process, to allow both to explore new environments previously forbidden due to physiological or psychological constraints.

Ah, good stuff. I love how you can really experiment and do strange new things with 3D sculpting. ZBrush, Mudbox, Sculptris, and Blender are all lots of fun for that kind of thing. The horns and eye-holes are sweet, the technical greeble is very good, and the overall shape and color are quite different but pleasing to the eye. I think that if we ever do find intelligent aliens, we would likely understand their technology better/easier than their minds. Tech is constrained to what is physically possible, which is a set of limitations we can label and number and work with. To the extent that a physical system must conform to the laws of physics, it is thereby understandable. The 'shape' or functions of a truly alien mind, on the other hand, has no such limitations or constraints... and alien psychology may be ultimately indecipherable to merely human minds. I think an AI programmed by humans meeting an AI programmed by aliens might come to understand both parties better than either understands themselves.

Nice start of this design, in particular I like the spiracle like structures. Really lends a creepy organic feel to the ship.
A couple questions and critiques, since you added this to my Bright Future group. :}
What is the scale of this ship? It's got some overall shapes from the Hiigaran Probe from Homeworld2, but its lacking any common reference points that can be readily identified. No antennas, hatches, windows or other human scale objects.
A good way to add some detail and scale is to focus on the joining of the organic and mechanical components. Add some panel cut lines where the two surfaces meet. This would require a higher subdivision though, and I'm not sure if that's something you would want to do.

thanks appreciate the feedback and input.
As one of my first digital designs it was created mostly spontaneously and on the fly. It started out as a regular ship but then turned organic, I actually have no real idea of the scale of this ship so kind of left it up to the imagination of the viewer, I can see it as both huge and microscopic. Yes I am now experimenting with higher subdivisions to show different levels of detail. I may return to this design to define the proper specs and history of the vessel. Looking back now it looks a bit like a manga drawing.
